CNN Larry King Live
Encore Presentation: Interview with Martha Stewart, Martha Kostyra
Aired March 07, 2004

STEWART: Oh, they were very happy and allowed me to save my money for my education. So it was all saved. And I remember making some commercials. I did a Lifebuoy soap commercial.
KING: You did?
STEWART: Well, when I was like 15.
KING: Lifebuoy, Lifebuoy.
STEWART: I played a young married. Can you imagine? As I say, I was 15-years-old. And then I did a Tareyton "I'd rather fight than switch" commercial, you know? And then I practiced smoking...
KING: You did a cigarette commercial?
STEWART: I know. I tried to smoke for a week. And when I finally made the commercial, all I had to do was hold the cigarette like that. So...

(11,767 posts)They all have violence including significant gun violence. The difference is that they regulate firearms in a way that The United States will not.
We can certainly have a discussion about the cultural glorification of violence. That is relevant, but to think that watching a movie with guns in it will lead to violence is not supported by research.
Also, they have not gotten rid of cigarettes in movies. What they stopped doing is making movies to advertise smoking as "cool" which is what they used to do because cigarette manufacturers sponsored television and film.

(4,523 posts)Cigarettes got MASSIVE free advertising in movies and it definitely led to more smoking.
Guns in movies are the same - massive ads for guns, and it normalizes them as being commonplace.
Not saying it necessarily has correlation to the mass shootings - but the advertising and normalization is obvious.

But no, RWers don't know reality from fiction. Their whole world is fiction and full of "alternative facts" to shut down any and all debate on improving regulations.

IRL I believe - I know I have read, but have no evidence - McConaughey is a gun owner and 2nd Amendment supporter (a rational one, it would seem). But that would not undercut his remarks, but strengthen him. He;s not a dewy eyed hippie automatically and viscerally rejecting guns. He, instead, knows what he is talking about.
If that's accurate, there should be a lot more like him.

(22,590 posts)McConaughey mentioned being a gun owner in his White House speech earlier this week. And as you said, he made it clear that he's a rational gun owner, not a gun NUT.

I appreciate Matthews words, he was near tears. He grew up there and his mom was a teacher down the street from ROBB. As for Wonder Woman.
