(1,036 posts)but opposes voting rights and supports tax cuts for the rich, and everything else that is putting into power the people behind the coup.
Which is one reason Republicans taking her stand are so rare. If you really want a democracy, you'd have left the Republican party a while ago.
Another reason is cowardice and seflishness, and she at least can claim courage and prinicple over self and for that we have to give her credit.

(1,286 posts)to find one so prominent who is willing to put country over party. Let's face it, for the most part we have a two-party system. Personally I would prefer 5 or 6, I think more would be interested in politics if the political ideologies were better defined, more narrow so to speak. However, this is not the case. We need two viable parties... she represents the 'other' but at least she not only acknowledges but defends the rule of law when it comes to a peaceful transfer of power.

(1,286 posts)an 'asylum'. I may not agree with 90% of what she or her elk stand for, but at least with her there is the potential for a conversation. I much prefer an intelligent debate to the dead-end street talks with the likes of Gym Jordan. IMO, this is how a democracy should function.

Liz doesn't like the direction she sees the GOP heading........but the OLD GOP stunk it up too, just not as much (or I should say, they weren't as OBVIOUS with their racism, misogyny, xenophobia, etc)

But, in the process, her stance against Trumpism also benefits the nation.

(2,710 posts)she recently received.
Her poise, organization, and clarity in her questioning was excellent. Her unwavering voice for the truth of the Insurrection has helped many Americans understand. Her voice on the committee cannot be understated.
She is paying a political and personal price for her standing up against Trump and for the truth.
I disagree with almost every policy position she holds, but I greatly admire her courage, her faithfulness to her oath of office, and patriotism.
Im not voting for her to hold elected office ever, but I am grateful for her service to our country.

(48,910 posts)though the political was certainly on display yesteday with RWers all over Twitter calling for her to be "banished" from the GOP.
It's a certainty, given the craziness and bloodthirstiness of many Trump supporters, that some individuals and maybe some small groups are convinced she should suffer worse than political banishment.
We saw a woman standing against her political party and doing a cool and devastatingly effective indictment of Trump and those who aided his insane attempt at a coup.
The RWNJs that Liz Cheney has to worry most about saw a woman painting a larger and larger target on herself.
I hope she has really good security wherever she goes.

(3,121 posts)representative from Wyoming isn't material for headlines, unless she does something risky and, in this case, making history. She might help to compensate a little bit for her evil father; she clearly thumbed her nose at what is left of her party; and she already has made a name for herself. I think she is doing an admirable job defending Democracy. Cheney is still a republican, buy she is definitely not stupid.

(43,153 posts)...and that family name will always have a great stain on it due to what went down in Iraq. And even though you could argue against the whole "sins of the father" take, I somehow think if she were Vice President at that time, she'd probably make the same decision as her father.
So yes, Cheney is a Cheney.
But...
Cheney is also an American.
And for that simple fact and that fact alone, I am grateful.
