(23,796 posts)you don't just slap this sort of presentation together in five minutes. Thompson and Cheney very methodically stepped through every piece of evidence, they had all the clips queued up and playing immediately, no time wasted, no technical snafus or blunders. It was seamless and articulate, and that is very important. because even truthful information can be dismissed if it is presented in a sloppy and/or incoherent manner.
And do not underestimate the importance of the committee giving Cheney a starring role in this event. It gives the hearings absolute unquestionable legitimacy.
"It gives the hearings absolute unquestionable legitimacy."
Absolutely!
That was a brilliant move by the committee to give Cheney the spotlight. She did not disappoint one iota.
I hope she has a lot of protection because there will be people who will want to harm her for the stance she's taken. Very courageous of her.

(90,735 posts)I kinda assumed so, since I looked at the start time of Thursday and how I knew it was way earlier here on the West Coast than the time given.
Also if they say 7pm start, that probably has to be Eastern time, because if it were starting at 7pm here in the West, thatd be 10pm Eastern and I doubt theyd hold a hearing that late!
So an 8pm start time Id say would have to be 8pm Eastern time.
But I always wanna make sure!

(1,000 posts)I kind of saw it like Stephen Colbert's description of the Nuthin burger the corporate media predicted. That burger was juicy. Well done tight presentation that certainly got the attention of yet unindicted conspirator #1. Three things stood out to me.
1. Bill Barr and Gen. Milley-Barr with "bullshit" and Milley describing calls for protection from Pence, and being stood down by Trump via Meadows. Not sure how the R's get to blame Nancy or Schumer.
2. Vanky. Yes, she IS truly his daughter, she threw him under the bus before he did her. In his hissy fits on Truth Social this morning he copy and pasted his post employeed performance on Barr from the one he did on Jeff Sessions at great length, but threw in a "She was checked out and did not see the election data."
3. Jared Kushner was so busy working hard on pardons that he found Pat Cipollone "whiny" concerning the coup in progress.
And among the things we already knew, FOX was/is a coconspirator. Even Kayleigh McEnanny with Sean-
"1 - no more stolen election talk," Fox News host Sean Hannity texted McEnany, according to the records. "2- Yes, impeachment and the 25th amendment are real and many people will quit."
"Love that. Thank you. That is the playbook. I will help reinforce....," McEnany replied, per the documents."

I don't think it's an accident that this coincides with the Indictments of the Proud Boys leaders and the gubernatorial candidate in Michigan. I think the goal was to remind the public of how we got here and what we've found. I suspect we are about to get more big name indictments. There is a dot (or dots) between President Trump and the Proud Boys/Oath Keepers leadership. Bannon? Stone? Lindell? Don't know, but I suspect we may be about to learn.

(82,849 posts)Yeah, us political junkies have been on this riot since it happened, but a lot of people are being reminded of what happened or learning of it for the first time. (27,835 posts)... the "tour group" folks asked point-blank to name another time when a bunch of tourists did what was done on January 6th.
"This isn't a memory test, and we realize you might not recall the exact date, sir. But if you could even name the month and year - or even the season of the year - when the Capitol was breached, attacked, and overrun by unruly tourists, that would be sufficient."

(2,010 posts)I don't watch any TV, but I've seen a few reality TV shows, as well as investigative news shows over the years. I watched on PBS live feed, and I was very impressed.
When I saw this thread i thought about how 45 has a huge fan base who love reality TV. I hope a good number of them will watch the "shows". They're gullible, and might be convinced that he wasn't acting in the best interest of the country.
The GOPQ is a mess, and there's a core of evangelicals and right wing nuts who will always support him. But there are some who can be swayed, who didn't want to acknowledge the severity of 1/6 but might become truly patriotic after hearing and seeing the testimonies. There are also a bunch of unaffiliated voters and Democrats who might be convinced or riled up as to how important it is to vote, to make sure that 45 and his minions don't gain control again. And hopefully the evidence presented will lead to many charges and convictions.
I'm off Monday and look forward to watching the next installment live.

There actually was some new stuff and they really tied the whole insurrection to Trump. If they can get an audio feed of him plotting w the rebel scum in that hotel the night before the coup attempt
then DOJ will have no choice but to charge him.
We shall see as the hearings progress.

(17,574 posts)The PBs and Oathkeepers were definitely there to implement a plan of attack. The video of them meeting in the parking garage - shades of Watergate - is good circumstantial evidence of coordination and conspiracy.
I think these groups and Trumpers both used each other to accomplish their different objectives. The rws really do want another civil war; Trump just wanted to retain power. But the common act was an insurrection to achieve each desired outcome.
