Ann Romney: Voters can trust Mitt
Mitt Romneys wife, Ann, told a Des Moines audience Tuesday night that her husband is a man who can be trusted to lead the country.
I trust him so completely, Romney said to hundreds of supporters at the Temple for Performing Arts. I know him so well. He always wants to do the right thing and the best thing for the country.
Repeating the assertion that Mitt does care throughout her 10-minute talk, Romney recounted a story that served as a character reference for her husband.
In 1980, she said, Mitt Romney befriended a 14-year-old boy who had leukemia, and over the course of their friendship, Romney wrote the boys will, and then gave the eulogy at his funeral.
That is the man that I know, that I know cares, that is so good, that has such integrity, Romney said

(25,005 posts)I thought that it was a nice story and humanizes him to a degree- but that still doesn't mean that he's Presidential material.

(13,141 posts)sorry if it was a nice story but it's a peculiar one.

(25,005 posts)It sounded like he was just trying to do something nice for a dying kid. Don't worry, I'm not going soft on Romney or trying to promote him or anything. I guess it's a good thing that they didn't put that video/story on right before Romney spoke at the RNC to try and publicize it more. Instead, we ended up getting the arguably more bizarre spectacle of an old man yelling at an imaginary person in a chair!

(9,992 posts)Apparently there is no more recent example of Mitt displaying an ounce of human feeling and they have been trotting this ONE tired old story out for months. Pathetic.

(16,993 posts)The fact that Ann Rmoney is having to make this statement says more about Mitt than anything, IMO.
Why would voters have to be convinced that Mitt can be trusted? Could it be due to the Rmoney campaign ads that aren't factual? Ads that keep running even after they've been debunked as lies?
Perhaps it's the phony staged photo ops. Or the hypocrisy of condemning President Obama for being soft on China, when Mitt has made millions from Chinese investments over the years. Or could it be Mitt's fake concern of American jobs being outsourced when his own Bain Capital has been out souring jobs for decades, and continues to do so, even as Mitt himself promises more jobs here in America?
Might even be Mitt's missing and incomplete tax returns. What is he hiding, Ann?
Get back to us on this, OK? (Right--I won't hold my breath.)

Giving all your love to just one man
You'll have bad times
And he'll have good times
Doin things that you don't understand
But if you love him
You'll forgive him
Even though he's hard to understand
And if you love him
Oh, be proud of him
Cause after all he's just a man
But if you love him,
you'll make excuses for him,
and cover up his mental state

(10,857 posts)I wonder why that is an issue? Oh yeah, because Mitt Romney has at least two contradictory positions on virtually every issue that Americans care about.
We can trust Mitt Romney to be dishonest, and that's about it. Worse for him, everyone knows it.

And as for trusting you or your word on this?? No fucking way. I'm just one of "you people" who don't matter in the 47%....

(21,977 posts)Well, Mitt, you've managed to get through the whole campaign without releasing those pesky tax returns. Thank your friends in the media for that favor.
Of course, you're going to LOSE. But at least you kept those tax returns from going public. Are you wondering if that was maybe a bad decision now?

(6,287 posts)How exactly does he do what's best for the country again? To take advantage of the environment here which allows him to succeed and then not even pay the proper share back? And once again we're treated to a one-on-one story that highlights his benevolence toward an individual, but they are never capable of pointing to anything that would benefit society as a whole. All micro, no macro.
So yeah, Ann. I don't trust him, I never will. And I pray I am able to witness him being eviscerated in about 6 days by the members of that freakshow you call the Republican Party.

Knowledge of his time at Bain
Or of his governorship...and considering he holds a record for overturned vetoes that will never be topped, I understand this one
Or his stewardship of the Salt Lake Olympics
His tax returns
Which foreign countries he hides his money in
Or an estimate of the number of jobs he sent to China...
Is it any wonder that current polls show in a hypothetical matchup between Romney-Ryan and the ticket of Bernie Welansky and the leader of the Salem Witch Trials, Romney still loses Mass 93 to 7?

(21,925 posts)Mitt was a Bishop, after all, and giving the eulogy at the funeral of an acquaintance isn't unusual unless there's still a doubt as to a person's humanity. At this point, Romney's surrogates should be talking about specific policy positions instead of continuing to try to convince everyone that Mitt is human.

If he did care, he'd be crushed with guilt over profiteering over the people whose lives he crushed - company kill after company kill.
