Of all the video clips seen yesterday, those four words uttered by Donald J. Trump in reference to calls to hang VP Pence were the ones that affected me the most.
I'm far, far from a fan of Pence, but in saying those words, Trump sealed his own doom, I think.
Thats why Ive hated Donald Trump since the 1970s!
He has always been a complete degenerate and disgusting human being!

(8,929 posts)Congress members/candidates stop bowing down to him. But I think you are correct that he is slowly losing support.
For sure they are a minority, but a minority that still controls their Party.

(146,331 posts)losing in elections. I expect to see more of that, as blind loyalty to Trump wanes.
His influence is shrinking with voters. It may begin shrinking with politicians running for office, as well.
We shall see.

Attended by only black, Central American or Muslim medical staff who let him sit in his own filth for hours, in front of a TV playing nothing but Rachel Maddow all day.
And nobody bothering to visit him the rest of his worthless life. Not even Princess Sparkle Bits.
That would make my black little heart do an endless happy dance.

One of thing things I might end of being disappointed by is the civility and professionalism of the Committee and the pundits' discussion, unless there's some outrage coming. This whole 6 year episode is deserving of something far outside the realm of analyzing a normal, misguided, misbehaving politician...normal political analysis and tone may not be enough to convey the seriousness and deserved disdain.
Perhaps the Cte takes this tack because they know the coming info is strong enough to stand on its own. Haven't seen that yet.
I imagine there is some outrage and emotion coming. Adam Schiff has done it brilliantly and appropriately during impeachment as have others. I can see why the Cte might want to keep emotion out of the hearing....but if not by Committee members, dems ought to line up other officials to write, get in front of cameras, tweet, and otherwise get out the message. Emotions, sound bytes, one liners make headlines...not fake headlines, but appropriate ones.

(146,331 posts)I'll just let them decide how to do that. Well beyond my pay grade, that is...

Is that you can scream and yell and even beg for coverage all you want, but nothing compels our lousy media to give anyone a microphone or column space or a spot on a talking head show. If anything, they have proven they especially loathe to do so for Democrats, and thats been the case all of my adult life (18 since 1980).

(47,600 posts)The words of a potentially murderous dictator. The only things that separate Trump from tyrants like Putin or Stalin are opportunity and our institutions. Given enough time, he would have weakened those institutions enough to become a true monster. Another four years in office could have been enough time.

(146,331 posts)We're getting to see and hear some new things from the Committee. That's a very good thing, I believe.

(47,600 posts)Without some new and potentially shocking information, rehashing what we already know over and over again isn't terribly effective. After awhile, people become desensitized and bored. Unfortunately, Americans have such a short attention span.

(2,853 posts)You saw a video clip with Trump saying those words?
I don't recall that. Not going to rewatch to find it, but, FWIW, Slate agrees:
First, Cheney expanded on last months blockbuster reporting by Politico that Trump had signaled a positive view of the prospect of hanging the vice president. The critical new details stated by Cheney were this:
Aware of the rioters chants to hang Mike Pence, the president responded with this sentiment: Maybe our supporters have the right idea. Mike Pence deserves it.
MineralMan
(146,331 posts)It was also aired on this morning's CBS National News.
Did you even watch the hearing?
dpibel
(2,853 posts)And a perspicacious wordsmith like you could have derived that information from my statement that I wasn't going to rewatch it.
I do not believe that there was a clip. I quoted Slate in support of my belief. If there was a video clip of Trump saying these words, why would Slate report it as something Cheney said?
I mean, I guess it could be poor reporting.
If, by the way, the "it" in "I saw it aired live on MSNBC" is the hearings, you don't need a copy. It's readily available to watch on CSPAN and elsewhere.
I'm actually not claiming that you're wrong. I am saying that I did, indeed, watch the hearing in its entirety. I do not recall seeing a video clip of Trump saying these words. I could be wrong as well.
But, hey, here's this morning's CBS coverage:
Go to 3:40 and see what you see. Similar words to what you're quoting. But not a video clip.

(57,235 posts)... when this was recorded. I'm not saying it, but I've heard people talking.

(2,853 posts)You're very confused.
Let's remember 1/6 in the real world:
Trump made a speech where he told his people to march to the Capitol and fight like hell.
Trump was silent for 3 hours.
Trump made his "Luv ya, go home heroes" video.
That's it for hearing from Trump on 1/6.
So when and where and how did you and millions hear those words?

(2,853 posts)They missed the video clip you saw not once, but twice.
Or maybe the poster here misquoted:
The committee did offer some new and ugly details. Aware of the rioters chants to hang Mike Pence, Rep. Liz Cheney said, the President responded with this sentiment: Quote, maybe our supporters have the right idea. Mike Pence, quote, deserves it. Who is the source of that quotation? The committee didnt say.(Emphasis added.)
So apparently the WSJ missed that clip where you "heard him say that."
Because you know the source of the quotation, right? You saw the clip!

It could go on but I think you get the drift.

Some people are just born awful, and we have to face that. The Anatomy of Violence by Adrian Raine lays out the research that shows how monsters like him are born that way.
