FINALLY! The 06 Jan Committee uses the right word.

Been waiting for this since the day it happened.

The attack on the nation's Capitol was the "culmination of an attempted coup." - Rep. Bennie Thompson in his opening remarks.

And that's the correct word! Not 'riot.' Not 'insurrection.' A 'Coup.'

Everyone here should call it for what it actually was: An attempted Coup d'Etat!

needs to be repeated over and over again until it becomes a part of the American consciousness. January 6th must live on as an "attempted coup". We cannot let republicans and right-wing media rewrite history.

they need to refer to it as an "attempted coup", not a riot or insurrection. It won't be long before it becomes the accepted description of that day.

I think more ordinary people, not political junkies, relate more to “coup” than “insurrection”.

Some of the top foot soldiers are being charged with seditious conspiracy not attempted coup. I’d like to see even clearer headlines like “January 6 was an attempt to overthrow the US government.”

Title 18 of the US Code deals with insurrection and sedition. It says nothing about a coup. The site here from Dictionary.com has an interesting explanation of the differences between treason, sedition, insurrection, and coup.

From day one...the media editors started this "riot"-"insurrection" shit to distract from the fascist's malfeasance in organizing an attempted coup. Our media is culpable in hiding the fascists behind their diversions and distractions. Can't hide it anymore.

By far right crazy people.

We progressives have more to be upset about. Like the crazy and unique Electoral College where you can lose despite winning. That will never ever happen for Democrats, only for Republicans.

Then the Senate where the two sparsely populated Dakotas get 4 Senators while California and New York, more heavily populated than many Nations, get 4 Senators too.

Calling this a true fair Democracy is a stretch.
