Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsLFR rant. Friday night beer induced, sick of the righty tighties trying to rewrite US history.
I personally don't care if they are pissed about people learning about the bad parts of US history. They can go climb under their beds and cry.
History is made of good and bad. We can be proud of the good but we must learn from the bad so we don't repeat it. And teaching history starts young.
Yes I agree that some should be held off of till children are older. Some should wait for different grade levels. But we all need to learn it.
We need to learn it. Heck immigrants know US history better than many of native born citizens. Right throws a fit about immigrants, maybe it's because they have better educational backgrounds than the right leaning jerks.
Yo, right leaning and MAGA prowling trolls, just come to terms with US history, good and bad!

(26,403 posts)Yeah - you are missing a point though.... (and I do not mean to disturb a perfectly valid rant which I agree with totally)
History, if taught well, helps bring about critical thinking which is why they are trying to neuter what is taught. It's not the "facts" - it is the process involving how people understand what the facts imply. In fact, to me, the whole point of teaching History is to develop a student's ability to perform critical thinking.
Same reason why they are trying to censor literature as well, along with culture and other individuality.
Cults hate critical thinking.

(14,120 posts)Yet another anti American thing to and to the list. For a group that says they love American, they do the most unpatriotic things imaginable.

(26,403 posts)They say a lot of things which they really do not mean. They are neither Christian, Patriotic, or even moral. There are many times where I am sure they are far from rational - operating purely from the animal brain in a perpetual flight or fight mode.
How many MAGA's have you ever encountered who were actually "rational" people?

(219 posts)They act like most of the breed that Ive dealt with.
Besides, its rude, disrespectful and dishonest to foist your religions bad actors on non-xians who had nothing to do with creating them, as if only your religions true members are good people while the rest of us are amoral slime.
Theyre all yours. You deal with setting them straight and leave the rest of us out of it.
Tired of getting blamed for something neither my former (Jewish) nor current (atheist) religious position had anything to do with creating.

(1,182 posts)from grade school, who once said that history is always being rewritten, which is why he loved the subject so much.
History isn't some static thing, never open to revision and reinterpretation, as new evidence is uncovered.
Any "event" in the past has a myriad of views as to its meaning and impact. You just have to look for them.
And to value multiple viewpoints is just the beginning of history. It's a field of study, like any other. History can change.

(14,120 posts)That is running on making sure kids learn more about how great America has been and downplay the bad.
He's a jerk.
