a friend of mine was appalled.
Then I mentioned that is already the protocol if you are black or brown, even if the weapon is only suspected.

(40,915 posts)When police enter the building, how do they know the armed teacher is not the mass shooter?
The mass shooter could say he is a teacher.

(37,431 posts)Which is why my school is very clear: We're to tell students to do what the police effing tell them. "Drop!" means flop on the ground. "Stop" means "stop." Don't protest, don't run to hug the cops, don't do anything but go limp and eat dirt. Use your brain, not your emotions.
Why?
Easiest way for a shooter to leave the building is to hide the gun, run screaming from the building with the other students, and then start killing all over again. Or just keep on runnin'.
A student runs at a cop? The poor human in the uniform might panic and shoot the student. Sure, bad cop. But after all the reprimands and punishment, the student's still been shot.

(33,424 posts)The green states (dark and light) are states with permitless carry. I have not heard of any shooting where the cops arrive and they find the situation you describe.
