to bring awareness to the price gouging of big oil ?
Hell in 2008 oil was $140.00 a barrel but gas was not this high.

(1,127 posts)People mostly drive to either serve their employer or consume domestic product. Let the profiteers shoulder the tax burden of maintaining the roads that enable them.

(32,083 posts)Don't spend any more than you have to. As long as people keep forking over their money, these corporations will keep gouging us. Nothing will change until people cut back on their spending.

So people can drive up to a certain point but after that they have to walk, bike, or public transportation within certain areas.

Rationing will control the amount of CO2 sent into the atmosphere, also drive people toward more efficient fossil fuel vehicles or EVs.
Either we reduce population OR control the combustion of fossil fuels.
We are going to have pick our poison very soon, or Mother Nature will pick it for us.

(13,180 posts)The Republicans and their craven coddling of oil companies have allowed those companies to get the American people over a barrel. (See what I did there.) Anyone who doesn't vote Dem is asking for (and deserves) higher gas prices.

The exploding petrol prices mean all bets are off now anyway, as we need to win the midterms, so anything goes.
My fear is that the US learns nothing from it all.

Maybe we send in the police to make sure thermostats in the summer are not below 85 in the summer or 45 in the winter.
Would that be OK?

(36,745 posts)Its rationing by price and will reduce consumption of it, for better or worse.
My car gets 41 mpg, so $6 a gallon is no big deal to me. The SUV I own is flex fuel so I can use cheaper E50 or E85.
Mr.Bill
(24,284 posts)Most cars these days are geared for maximum fuel efficiency at 65 mph. I know mine is.
NickB79
(19,236 posts)The faster you push a vehicle through the air, the greater the air resistance. And at higher speeds, it increases at the square of speed, so doubling your speed quadruples your resistance.
It's a myth that vehicles get better MPG at faster speeds. Every car I've ever owned got better MPG at 50-55 mph than 75 mph.
Mr.Bill
(24,284 posts)shows mine maxes out at 65. It drops off if I go faster than that. As they say, your mileage may vary.
You are right about aerodynamics. That's a big part of why pickup trucks get bad gas mileage. The trucks they are building today appear as if they are trying to build them with the worst aerodynamics possible.
NickB79
(19,236 posts)Maybe it's because I grew up on a farm, where a truck was just another piece of machinery, and was beat to hell and back.
You want to drive a truck to work? With all the rust, dents, straw and manure on it?
Mr.Bill
