In the 1980s my husband and I made the rash decision to leave Florida and live in Washington, DC. He got a job as a magazine editor; I cast my lot on a Capitol Hill job. That's when I met Capitol Hill police. Generous, capable, always ready to help a lost tourist, my heart was melted by them. Am not even sure they wore sidearms at that time. When I was hired, the officer who had greeted me several times left his desk and wrapped me in a big hug and welcomed me to the "family."
Watching such nice people get ripped and bloodied -- even killed -- on Jan. 6 was unbearable. Like watching puppies being kicked. There aren't words for the contempt I feel for what TFG did to a wonderful group of people. A loss of national innocence, perhaps. Definitely believe DJT should never be allowed anywhere near the White House again.

djt should be charged for the murder of those that died, after all, it's his ultimate fault in sending these thugs to the Capitol that caused their deaths.
djt should never have any peace, no rest, until Justice is done for those that were hurt and/or died. Nothing less. He needs to be punished for his evil power-hunger ways which obviously means that anybody that stands in his way will be killed, etc., without a moment's thought on his part.
Such a person should never be allowed to hold any office, period. He should be sued by those that got hurt or worse, for restitution.
djt should be in jail.

(200 posts)After the incident with the guy who said he was going to blow up the Washington monument (maybe Norman Thayer??) Capitol police were more visible (and I'm guessing, armed) but their kindness and courtesy was always on display. I worked as a caterer and provided food for luncheons and events on and around Capitol Hill. I always took extra brownies or cookies, the officers acted like I was giving them gold. I received much, much more in return.

(2,541 posts)Seeing that on TV was heartbreaking. However watching assholes like Jordan, Gaetz, Johnson (I believe) disparage and belittle the very men and women who risked their lives protecting these assholes at the hearings afterward.
I will never forgive the gop for what they have done.

(32,628 posts)The Secret Service (people around the President) knew what was happening, and they didn't alert security authorities. If that doesn't make you sad and concerned, then nothing will.

(3,406 posts)I remember talking to one of them about her job. It made a huge impression on me, that women were breaking barriers. Today I feel many female officers appear better at communicating and are more capable of de-escalating tense situations. Many years later I still have great respect for our Capitol Police and feel disgusted at how they have been treated.
