Failed coup or dress rehearsal?

I honestly believe that some of the gun nuts who are stockpiling AR-15s and whining about a coming civil war have some crazy idea that they're going to use their hunting rifles to oppose the US Army and the National Guard the next time some tin pot dictator tells them to rally at the Capitol. Will they ever succeed? Probably not. For the time being, we have civilian control of the military, but what about the far right threads we have been finding throughout our military service ranks?

EVERYONE who participated in the coup must be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. An example must be made of them so this doesn't keep happening, and so that far right wing nuts don't latch on to the idea that violence is the way to air their political grievances.

5. Both. 2000 emboldened them, 2016 built on that, and they figured what do we have to lose in 2020.

So far, they've been right. Unless that changes, no question 2024 will be their going for the throat effort. Buck up America!

That was when the fissures in the republic opened up significantly.

Stolen elections have that effect.

And they desire to play out their patriotic fantasies live and in color. They would rid "their" country of all of the evil influences like non-Christians, liberals and people of color. They are sincere in their beliefs that their country has been stolen from the white man, and they want to be a part of getting it back. They are a bigger danger since the former President let them out of the closet and encouraged them to "fight like hell or they wouldn't have a country any more."

That theft of the country and theft of the election are two sides of the same coin.

If at first you don't succeed, try try again.

They're attacking on many fronts, having started at the state levels and taking over legislatures and boards and redistricting. The militias they've formed, oath keepers (against Obama) and the proud boys (for tRump), and other assorted (militarized) hate groups are one significant way they can take control and assert authority, by force. They dare to call themselves patriots or rebels when they're traitors and terrorists, and should be prosecuted according.

I'm thinking of the groups who invaded Michigan's Capitol building, and have seen discussion about that being a dress rehearsal for 1/6.
