Funding mental health with the aim of reducing gun violence is a little too profiling for me tbh.

Even for people with serious mental disorders that are 'associated' with violence the difference between acts of violence over a year by people with mental disorders are in raw percents, only about 1.5% more in the mentally disordered, and most of that comes from prisons on a scale that compares to the general population as 100%. Violence among both people using illicit drugs and people using illicit drugs while suffering from serious mental disorders is higher by 8%-12% than people with no mental disorder or just a single mental disorder.

Prisons, you know places where interpersonal conflict and violence are elevated in prisons and violence and threat of violence is part of 'fitting in' to prison culture.

I don't oppose the proposed red laws so long as there is carefully crafted due process and the practice is guided into a legal maturity that prevents the introduction of stereotyping and stigma as weights on the scale of justice.

As you said, it is mostly a mental health bill. If enacted, this bill will do next to nothing to reduce mass shootings but the Republicans will no longer be able to get away with saying we need to address mental health issues to reduce gun violence. This bill purportedly does that (even though it actually doesn't in reality). It will remove the mental hurdle, though, so the next bill might actually be able to do something as this bill does almost nothing.

They are just making excuses as to why they won’t with this. We need to hit them over the head that this is unacceptable otherwise they won’t budge on the issue.
