A Drag Queen taught my daughter to walk in heels as a teen.

I always have been mostly barefoot whenever possible and useless in that department.

He identified as male and gay but was much better at doing full blast female than I would ever hope to be

He was also black and Southern capital S southern and was always amazed that a white Yankee skinny woman could actually cook home style food.

So we learned from each other.

Thanks for sharing it.

I grew up in San Francisco - so this is all such a nothing-burger to me.

And about your friend? Fabulous is fabulous!

I visited a cousin there, and while riding a trolley a guy boarded decked head to toe like Marilyn Monroe, and no one on the trolley batted an eye. I was somewhat miffed that she had better legs than me. THAT ain't right.

In the hands of a fab gay man, you and your daughter are gonna look FAB!!!

Why?

We have so much fun picking out stuff for the occasion. I cant do makeup, but I can pick items that go with other items.

Additonally, Because we love people like you

who is 6ft 6in tall. I couldn't afford an outfit for her for prom. The younger Queens took her in hand, head to toe. It was some Cinderella-esque stuff for sure! My baby turned many heads that night, her confidence and self esteem skyrocketed, and she hasn't looked back. I love the Queens.

I never saw her in heels. She got some for the Prom, though. Tried them out. Wore flats to the Prom. "Those shoes were terrible!" she said. Smart girl. My wife is tall, too. She says she has never worn high-heeled shoes in her life.

when I got married. My future husband and I were heading into a concert arena (holding hands), when this guy asked me for my seat number. My fiance says "Man, don't you see us holding hands?"

The guy was very confused, because he said "I am so sorry! I thought you were her son!"

Boyfriend was not amused.

So very awesome of him. And I hear of such stories all the time. Which is why the latest onslaught against drag queens is so upsetting to see.

There are likely far less haters today than there were 20-30 years ago. I think RuPaul and Drag Queen Story Time and many other things have done a lot to normalize drag queens and erase the ignorance from a lot of people.

It's just the same ol' haters, who are just louder and meaner and crazier than they used to be. "We don't have to be afraid anymore!" and all that nonsense.

I always figured my high, stiff arches--and my own ineptitude were what keeps me from ever becoming comfortable in any sort of heels. Granted, my mother and sisters never offered me any help in this department, either. They all walk(ed) just fine in heels. I could have used a drag queen when I was younger, although at that young age, and at that time period, I wouldn't have been as accepting of the help as your daughter is. Times have changed, and so have I...

I've heard of a lot of people who did need some help to learn to walk in heels. Like you, though, I ended up teaching myself starting in my late teens or early 20's

I generally avoided heels as much as I could, and hobbled around in lower ones when forced to. I haven't owned anything higher than a 1" heel in decades, and even those are not pleasant to walk in. To this day, I do not understand why women (or drag queens) willingly put their feet, knees, and backs through wearing those things. Especially those stiletto things that Malaria Trump always wears.

On those days of wanting to wear heels, I usually wind up in something 4 or 5 inches myself, and can handle 6 inches here and there.

But, I get it. They're not for everyone and a lot of people don't enjoy them that high - or at any height.
