London Police Charge Kevin Spacey With Sexual Assault

The actor Kevin Spacey was charged with four counts of sexual assault on Monday in London, the city’s police force said in a news release.

Mr. Spacey, 62, who was also charged with one count of causing a person to engage in penetrative sexual activity without their consent, is scheduled to appear in court in London on Thursday where he will confirm his identity and that he understands the charges. A date for a full trial has not yet been announced.

The offenses, which involve three men, are alleged to have occurred between March 2005 and April 2013, the police said in the news release. Mr. Spacey’s representatives did not immediately respond to a request for comment...

Mr. Spacey told ABC News’s “Good Morning America” that he denied the charges and would travel to Britain to defend himself. “While I am disappointed with their decision to move forward, I will voluntarily appear in the U.K. as soon as can be arranged and defend myself against these charges, which I am confident will prove my innocence,” he said in a statement to the show.

It's not clear whether these men were adults or minors at the time, but none of the charges suggest a minor was involved. Stacey voluntarily traveled to the UK, where the arrest was executed upon his arrival.

No sympathies for sexual assailants here.

But I hate it when a really talented actor turns out to be a sex offender, because I can no longer watch him without thinking of that. Spacey is immensely talented, and you don't get accused by that many people without there being some truth to it.

to learn about his illegal behavior. I always liked him as an actor. I loved The Usual Suspects.
Like you, I couldn't watch him without thinking of it. It's not even to boycott, but rather it makes my stomach turn.

Spacey and Jeff Bridges. She said Spacey was just plain weird. He'd stand behind her, as close as he could without actually coming into contact, and say NOTHING. Just stand there. She decided her best option was to just ignore him.

As for Jeff Bridges, she said he was a wonderful, sweet, kind and generous man.

There was a little girl in the film. My friend said during breaks she and Jeff would each hold her hand and she'd SWING between them. He's just a down to earth human being, which is nice to hear.

Learning stuff about celebs, first hand, from friends and family who worked in the 'business' and who had actual encounters with them was a real benefit, at one time. I'll be watching a film with my brother and he'll interject some anecdote about someone in the film that he'd met or worked with. He used to work at 20th Century Fox in the research library and also did some actual behind the scenes film work. One year, on my birthday, he presented me with an personalized, autographed photo from Sean Connery.

That is pretty much how I would picture him - very down-to-earth and unpretentious.

I wonder if the movie was K-PAX. In that movie Spacey played a mentally unstable and seriously damaged person. Perhaps he was staying in character or more likely, maybe he is really weird. I always thought of him as an excellent actor, but it is possible he was playing himself. He did weird characters so well.

The title of the article was "Kevin Spacey Has a Secret." The format of the article incorporated Spacey's answers to questions posed by an interviewer from the magazine. The article suggested that Spacey was a closeted gay man. It struck me that the article was a means by which Spacey and the magazine promoted one another. In those days before social media, speculation in print media was sometimes fomented to raise an individual's name recognition.

Later, when Spacey appeared on "Larry King Live," King indicated that he thought the "Esquire Magazine" article was unfair, whereupon Spacey seemed to tacitly agree.
