1. Trump was told (there was no election fraud) but didn't care
2. More evidence that almost everyone knew Trump had lost
3. Giulianis time in the barrel
4. A new crime floated
As its investigation has unfolded, the committee has floated a number of laws Trump might have broken, including obstruction of an official proceeding and witness tampering.
Jan. 6 committee broaches witness tampering and Trump
But on Monday, the committee gestured at a new one: fundraising fraud. The clear implication was that this was, at the very least, a highly deceptive fundraising ploy deceptive because it relied on lies about voter fraud, but also because the money wasnt going to what people believed it did.
Asked after the hearing whether this broke the law, Rep. Zoe Lofgren (D-Calif.) told CNN: Were a legislative committee. And its clear that he intentionally misled his donors, asked them to donate to a fund that didnt exist and used the money raised for something other than what it said.

I don't give two shits about the fundraising fraud...I want to see him and all the people who assisted him in planning the coup, charged with seditious conspiracy, convicted and sentenced to the 20 year max. Lock. Them. Up.

(82,849 posts)We often have to deal with what are called "dedicated funds," monetary gifts that the donor has earmarked for a specific purpose, like putting a new roof on the building or buying new hymnals. I've been in hours and hours of discussion about the proper use of such funds, and the constant concern that we might be called to account for why we spent dedicated funds in a particular way. Our small but mighty congregation doesn't have oodles of money at its disposal, so we're very careful about documenting the process that goes into spending any dedicated funds. And that's just teeny-weeny congregation dealing with a few thousand dollars.
Here's the former guy, pulling in nine figures in donations for a very specific purpose, and then spending it on whatever. Seems like something that should attract some official attention.
