The article is a eulogy to Texas' pro-business climate, but I think the main issue is the fact that US corporations are supporting Texas' horrific anti-abortion law by moving into the state.
A year before Tesla, it was Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE). The company nearly single-handedly established Californias Silicon Valley as a premiere global tech hub more than 80 years ago. HPE now resides in Spring, Texas, just north of Houston.
Software maker Oracle, co-founded in 1977 by now-multibillionaire Larry Ellison, also recently relocated from its former home on the San Francisco Bay to Austin.
So many people and businesses are relocating to Texas, in fact, that Verizon recently announced it was increasing capital spending in the state by an additional $97.9 million. Between January 2020 and April 2022, more than 200,000 Verizon customers moved to Texas, putting a strain on demand. Austin alone has seen a data traffic spike of 323% since the start of the pandemic.

Why are corporations able to get away with this? Why don't consumers hold them accountable for their complicity with misogynist law? They obviously don't care about their women employees, and now they show that the rights of their women customers also aren't worth protecting. This is how the GOP is able to advance it's anti-women agenda. Corporations are more than happy to go along with it.

(12,682 posts)Hedge funds, venture capital, and international investment groups don't care about workforce health or rights. And if you look at the companies moving to TX, they're all companies with board members that hobnob with those rich idiots that operate hedge funds, venture capital, and international investment groups.
C Suite doesn't care about abortion, climate change, or income inequality, or even customers or other stakeholders in their businesses. They primarily care about cash flow and shareholders.

(2,947 posts)will not be able to hire and keep the staff they need because of the loss of Roe. Right now the TX law affects only Texas women. Just wait till it affects all women.

(14,176 posts)Ellison hosted fundraisers for whatshisname, the grotesque Ezra Cohen-Watnick went to work there after he'd been tossed from the NSC until he returned to the administration in 2020, etc. They don't care about women's reproductive freedom any more than noted misogynist Musk does.
