Tyre Sampson was 6-foot-2 and weighed 383 pounds when he fell to his death while riding the FreeFall drop-tower ride in Orlando on March 24, according to the Orange County Medical Examiners report released Monday.
The ride, which towered higher than the Statue of Liberty, had a recommended maximum weight of 287 pounds, according to a ride manual previously released by the states Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services, though there have been questions as to whether this weight limit was publicly posted.
The middle schoolers manner of death was ruled accidental. He sustained blunt force injuries to the head and neck and blunt force injuries of the torso, including internal lacerations to his spleen, stomach and liver, according to the medical examiners report obtained by HuffPost.

(33,281 posts)The (probable) teens monitoring who rides the ride are usually just looking for kids who are under-height.
Awful way to go.

(9,475 posts)You would think that ride makers would make them sturdy enough that you wouldn't have to worry about the riders weight. But now I suppose there will have to be a scale next to the height ruler whenever you go on a ride.

Sympthsical
(9,067 posts)It was nowhere close to being enough to secure him. It was a foot higher than everyone else's because his size wouldn't allow it to be brought down to his lap. How the ride operators didn't take one look at that and go, "Newp!" is beyond me. Green light or not, one glance should've been enough.

(17,615 posts)..only saving grace was he didnt fall the entire 430 ft and didnt have to experience the horror of the entire fall....as he landed so quickly after he was ejected.
SO PREVENTABLE!!
