Democrats have seized on a political action committees allegations that Rep. Lauren Boebert (R-CO) worked as a prostitute and had multiple abortionsclaims that rest on zero actual evidence.
On Tuesday, American Muckrakers PAC, co-founded by Democrat and former North Carolina state Senate candidate David Wheeler, published allegations claiming that Boebert had previously worked as an escort on a sugar-daddy website and underwent at least two abortions, one of which was related to her supposed sugar-baby work.
For Boeberts critics, the idea that the anti-abortion rights conservative had in fact had multiple abortions herself offered irresistible proof of Boeberts hypocrisy. The allegations quickly circulated in anti-Trump Resistance communities online. Occupy Democrats, a popular liberal Twitter account, conceded that it wasnt clear whether the allegations were accurate. But it urged its nearly 400,000 Twitter followers to retweet the claims IF YOU THINK THAT IT SOUNDS TRUE anyway. Boeberts name trended on Twitter.
...
At least one of the sources claims can already be disproven. In the text message log, the source provided the PAC with a picture of whats described as a picture of Boebert, wearing a short white dress, sitting on a bed. The source claims the photo was taken from Boeberts profile on a sugar-daddy website. But the woman in the picture is actually Melissa Carone, a supposed voter-fraud witness cited by Rudy Giuliani, according to a Daily Mail report from 2020.

And criticize those of us who wanted a little better source before jumping on the bandwagon.

For Democrats, it would be viewed the opposite and blasted all over the republican owed media.

(60,831 posts)for three reasons.
1) There are hundreds of reasons to argue that she is not qualified and a terrible person.
2) The charges may not be true.
3) Her MAGA supporters won't care. Trump paid for abortions and Melania was at least involved with pornographic photos. Yet, the MAGA crowd argued that she was the most beautiful classy First Lady.

(11,767 posts)The idea that "liberals rushed" to spread information and noting that 3 Democratic or aligned politicians simply "spread the information" is also FALSE.
The 3 politicians clearly stated IF it is true she had an abortion, it is good she had access to that safe and legal procedure with only Wu commenting on the hypocrisy of the allegations and Boebert's political stances.
I don't see "Liberals rushing" to do anything. A couple of politicians commented on the matter, none of them saying that it was gospel truth.

(10,896 posts)Not even Reddit is really discussing it, and usually this sort of thing would be at the top of all by now and spread all over the place.
So, banner day for us I guess, lol.

(9,647 posts)Even the Young Turks were careful to call this an allegation and pointed out that they had not been independently verified.
But they did report that origin of the report was from the same people that outed Cawthorn.

(15,674 posts)Not that I wasn't hoping this was true. I really, really was, but we need to slow our roll and let it play out and get verified or not, and I think for the most part, we did. We shouldn't be like QAnon where every conspiracy theory is automatically taken as true, and we shouldn't be like Project Veritas where we lie to gain political power. We need to take the kids gloves off, but we shouldn't be doing that so that we can more effectively punch people in the crotch.
Yes, I am a poet. Was it my evocative imagery of my last sentence that clued you in?

(64,025 posts)Of course, the more unbelievable the story, the more likely it is to be accepted as true.
I guess the idea of Boboert being an escort and having two abortions isn't unbelievable enough.

Maybe that's how QAnon persists. It's so "out there", that the MSM would never pick it up or bother to debunk it

(10,230 posts)Not that Id mind if the representative from Rifle, CO got taken down, but Democrats and progressives have gotten burned too often by taking right-wing news sources as credible (Al Frankens ouster was but one of many such disinformation scams). Wait for honest, competent journalists analysis and research before taking anything from tainted right-wing sources as truthful or accurate.

It's the same phenomenon we've seen in the past: Fake News aimed at liberals has a very short shelf life, and can't go a day or two without extensive fact-checking, whereas conservatives freely repeat every horseshit claim that comes down the pike.

Now two wrongs clearly don't make a right, though the RIGHT has a history of committing WRONGS like this.
(Oh, for the DU young'uns, these are viral dog-whistle pictures falsely alleged to be of Trayvon Martin that rightwingers circulated to justify not-even-a-rent-a-cop George Zimmerman gunning him down one rainy evening 10 years ago)
