Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsI saw a Mercedes convertible with a TRUMP/MAGA bumper sticker.
Without even getting into the politics of it, who would spend somewhere in the area of $100K on a car, and then put any kind of bumper sticker on it? Think about it. How many top-dollar luxury cars have you seen with bumper stickers?
Then, thinking politically, I thought the guy driving it may have been good enough at something to make big money, but, beyond that, had a fucked up world view and was part of the GOP cult.
However, given where I live, there may be another explanation. I'm about a half hour from Mar-a-Lago. This guy may have been a paid up member of Trump's Palm Beach "palace." He may have put on that bumper sticker to demonstrate his loyalty to "Dear Leader." Whatever the reason, my opinion was that the guy was a world-class asshole.
And one more important thought. Why can wingnuts drive around and announce who they are with no fears? If we Democrats drove around with an Obama or Biden bumper sticker, there's a very good chance we'd be assaulted or, at the very least, get keyed in a parking lot.

(100,059 posts)I know plenty of upper class types who are very well off that are very glued into the Murdoch / MAGA cult. These are the people we need to worry about. It's not necessarily Joe Six Pack, it's his country club boss that likely has Fox tuned to every TV in the house. They're also likely to have high speed internet connections that are needed to stream content from Facebook and internet news sources that are far right.

(100,059 posts)I've seen tons of MAGA themed bumper stickers and even custom license plates on some very high end cars (think Porsches, Maserati, Lambo, etc).

(51,308 posts)I had my DU sticker on my old car forever.
I live in a red town, and Ive never had a problem with keying and certainly not assaulting.
So, not only wingnuts can drive around and announce who they are with no fears. We can too.

(15,031 posts)most Dems, virtually everywhere, are aware of the asylum that the GOP is. And they feel it's safer to keep a low profile around these crazies.

(51,308 posts)I also travel a lot, so my different cars, with various Dem stickers, have been everywhere.
I even have a Darwin fish sticker. Nary a problem.
My DU sticker was from years ago, the one we used to get with a donation
that was on my pickup truck when I lived in SC.
My neighbor around the corner has an Obama sticker on his car too. Numerous Bernie stickers around here, and Ive never heard of any problems from any of my Dem friends here. A friend of mine lives up in deep red Madison County, and her Subaru proudly bears a Hillary sticker to this day.
Nothing to fear but fear itself. A great Democrat said that.

Funny thing, Ive read stories here on this forum about people pilfering tfg signs, so if this sort of juvenile crime happens, it must be on both sides.

(15,378 posts)I went to a magnetic sign company and had them cut up some of their blank material into bumper sticker dimensions. I put the stickers on those and then the magnet on my bumper. When I parked, the signs went into my trunk because no one was going to key my sweet, sweet ride (94 Nissan Sentra).

(3,557 posts)Though none are blatantly political. One is a CIB (combat infantrymans badge) the second is one that says dysfunctional veteran and the last is a bright yellow sticker that says Caution Idiot Driver.
Its just a car. Its meant to be driven and enjoyed.
But youre absolutely right about political bumper stickers drawing the ire of the right.

(14,642 posts)I survived Catholic School that I put on my Chrysler E-Class after I graduated from a Catholic university. The local priest thought it was hilarious. The Methodist were afraid it would offend someone (uh, maybe like the priest?). It stayed on.
I put my political bumper stickers on my garden cart. Very red state/county/etc. and I would be afraid to put anything on my car here.
