Without the guarantee of criminal indictments being handed down if it is determined that Dotard engineered the coup attempt (which he clearly did), what good will all this do? Yeah, it's great to have an official record of his treasonous acts. However, if he gets to walk away scot-free and run for President again, the satisfaction obtained from what will amount to little more than a moral victory will ultimately feel hollow, just like his two impeachments did.
For once, Trump needs to face real consequences for his virulent acts. Whether it's determined that he actually planned the 1/6 coup attempt or was simply its inspiration and goad, criminal prosecution MUST follow. Otherwise, like it or not, this will look just like the partisan dog and pony show the a-hole ReTHugs are screaming it is across their various propaganda platforms...a mere election year smokescreen thrown down in an attempt to distract an already beleaguered population away from their considerable daily hardships.
It's put up or shut up time. Either put this prick in chains or never speak his shitty name again. Our party needs to start focusing exclusively on solving the problems of everyday Americans soon or November will produce nightmare none of us will want to wake up from.

(44,070 posts)So fact free speculation that the DOJ is doing nothing is fact free.
Theyve indicted people for sedition already, but they didnt leak before they announced indictments.
Have a good one.

(1,773 posts)Right up until we fall into that big ditch that's lying just up ahead for us in November. Then we'll be doing all our gum-chewing in traction for the next two years.

(44,070 posts)Just joking w you.
DOJ has indicted people for sedition, and I highly doubt they are done.
The DOJ doesnt leak, and they dont announce indictments until they have all their ducks in a row.
Also Dems/Biden are addressing everyday problems. Republicans dont even have a plan.

(1,773 posts)Be very afraid, because if we lose both the House & Senate in November with that Orange scumbag still free to stir to shit pot, our nation is truly effed.

(44,070 posts)Shes got a lot of info that you may have not heard
For example:
The January 6th Militia Witnesses are Cooperating with the DOJ, probably not with the committee

(13,056 posts)hearings. The only people who will remember will be voters who were going to vote Democratic anyway. The GOP has a virtual lock on winning back the House and a good shot at the Senate, although I am still hopeful that the Democrats may hold on to the Senate by the skin of their teeth.

(44,070 posts)Prosecutors build solid by flipping to small fry and getting them to give up the big fish. Thats SOP at the DOJ.

(3,400 posts)Good chance it includes several state felonies AND a potential 20 year RICO sentence.
Our good friend, Senator Graham of South Carolina could get swept up in the RICO charge as well.
Neither Governor Kemp (or Stacey Abrahms) is likely to commute a conviction.

(50,916 posts)It WILL make a difference, regardless of what the DOJ does.
Yes. I have seen the video.
But PS, I imagine I am one of the ones you refer to as a "doomer" because I have said from the beginning that I will believe in a trump conviction when trump is convicted and not before. That is still where I stand.
We, apparently, disagree on the likely outcome, yet I don't need a derisive name for you. Not sure why you need one for me.

But I wont use that term anymore. You dont deserve that nor do others who share yr opinion, and I really apologize.

(506 posts)Trump escaped conviction in two impeachments in which he was clearly guilty. And one case in NY, and god knows how many others. So far the DoJ has indicted some Proud Boys. That's the easy part. Easy easy easy. But it took a year and a half to get it done. If the DoJ is looking to put together a bullet proof case on Trump in which they can be reasonably sure of a conviction, as they usually do, then at the current rate of progress Trump may die of old age before he is indicted.
Does that make me a Doomer? The DoJ asked the Committee for all of their evidence. The Committee declined, saying they plan on releasing all the goods in September. Right on time for the DoJ to decline taking public action which could influence an election. So that puts DoJ action out until after November. But that doesn't mean anything will happen in November. They would still have to comb through the evidence putting together the iron clad case. So maybe they could be prepared in the first quarter of next year. And then there is the problem of jury selection. How long do you think it would take to find 12 jurors plus alternates in this nation who have no opinions or biases on this? How many MAGAs would love to be on such a jury and lie their hearts out to protect their messiah by hanging the jury? It will take some serious time to filter them out, and his defense team will drag their feet as slowly as possible in discovery and in claiming the same, but opposite, concerns in jury selection. Considering these things it would not surprise me if justice does not approach Trump until 2024, and that being an election year again, with Trump as a presidential candidate, it brings up queries about the propriety of a trial. Bet your ass the GOP would press those queries right up to the Supreme Court. How long would that take?
Even a Doomer like me will hesitate to speculate on that. But we all have plenty of time to get our speculations together, both the fact based and the hope based.
