Misogyny is as bad, though I think much stronger and more pervasive than racism, anti-Semitism, etc.

(90,306 posts)I agree. I haven't seen any fade-out on misogyny. Maybe it's the last prejudice that's somehow still perceived as excusable?

And it certainly illustrates that "it's always cheaper to be a decent human being." Now he has lost two employees. And it isn't cheap to get blood all over like that cleaned up. (When the police allow him to.) The company is unlikely to think this reflects favorably on his management skills. And all of that is without a bankrupting lawstui.
I apologize gor how crass that sounds (and is) - but some people only understand crass.

(22,698 posts)IANAL, so I don't know how liability works in a case like this. The manager is OBVIOUSLY culpable for ignoring her pleas, allowing what sounds like blatant sexual harassment to continue, and ultimately putting her life in danger.. Since he was acting in his capacity as manager (as a "representative" of the company, do to speak), how much liability does the company itself have? A lot, I hope, because the company has much deeper pockets than that bozo manager.
Of course, that won't undo what has already happened, but hitting Walgreens HARD in the pocketbook could send a badly needed message to other companies and other bosses to TAKE
SHIT LIKE THIS SERIOUSLY!
This story makes me incredibly sad, horrified, and *HULK SMASH* levels of angry, all st the sane time. ARGH. 😔😢😱🤬

This is beyond sickening. I remember older guys hitting on me in my high school days. Ugh.

(58,333 posts)It is just heartbreaking and infuriating how this vulnerable, rapist-targeted age group is not taken seriously and protected. The fact that her manager did not immediately protect her from her co-worker harasser, despite her giving him notice about the harassment, and instead required her to continue to work with her harasser, is criminal negligence.

Another manager at the store, Crystal Ishmael, said Whitelaws boyfriend was hired on about three months ago. When that happened, Ishmael said, Johnson appeared to be acting jealous.

(6,017 posts)Systems like sex-based hierarchies create countless intertwined structures that reinforce themselves.
If women were believed, either society would have to accept it openly or society would have to decide that men don't deserve to be higher in the social hierarchy by the mere attribute of being men. And there are a whole lot of power based subcultures (think: religions, republicans, etc) whose entire social power structure uses sexism as a foundation on which to build upon.

(26,217 posts)be fired for not dealing with her sexual harassment complaints. Telling a harasser to "be professional" is not dealing with it.
The family has a good case against both Walgreen's and the manager.
And how the hell is an employee absent for 90 minutes after a break without someone noticing and checking? Didn't anyone else question why the break room was closed off?
A lot is not explained here.
