Our house is divided - can it be made whole again?

I believe that the midterms and the next presidential election will determine whether this country begins to heal or descends into a mortal cycle of lies, hatred and greed.

I don't see any indications that TFG supporters and the Republican party are ready to stop using the big lie to gain political power or place the needs of the country above devotion to political party. I fear the wound is mortal and I am trying to figure out what I will do if democracy dies in this country.

I imagine we’ve done all kinds of wrongs to them. When we just tell the truth and they think it’s hell

Power, coercion of hatred? I don't see how it all benefits them, specifically and directly. Hatred is a political goal?

And they'll crawl back under their rocks to keep promoting that uniquely American simmering resentment to loss of privilege they never really had.
If not, liberatarian and GOP businesses that casually support fewer taxes and lax regulations will quickly learn that those regulations protected their businesses as well as their competition from monopolies, that taxes and fees paid for common services that would be ruinously expensive to pay for on their own, not to mention a legal system that protects them from wealthier m-fers and psychopathic gangs that would otherwise swoop in and just take what they want whenever they feel like it.
Same with all those slack-jawed trump supporters. Life will only get worse, and once red State cliques take over, driving out all the undesirables, the sheep that just want to live their own lives, they will find themselves eating their own.

Blue states will hold on, even though the Federal Government will be gutted. The oh-so-status quo "Federalist Society" types will quickly find that theocratic fascism is certainly not as profitable for the 1% as it is for the top .001%.

11. Well said. Please make this an OP, and maybe expand on it a bit. Or just leave it as is.

What you wrote hasn't been said enough here (or anywhere, as far as I've seen, even on "hard left" boards).
