..........
The Jan. 6 select committee made its most forceful case Thursday that Donald Trumps attempt to overturn the 2020 election was more than an affront to the democratic process it was a crime.
For all the panels public quibbling over whether to vote on referring Trump to the Justice Department for a possible criminal case, members did it their own way. They used Thursdays public hearing to present what they see as some of their most compelling evidence and thereby mount a case, with Attorney General Merrick Garland watching, that Trump broke the law in his effort to make former Vice President Mike Pence single-handedly overturn the election.
It was clear that the president was upset with the vice president not agreeing to do something that was clearly illegal, and so he wanted to put as much pressure on Mike Pence as he could, committee chair Bennie Thompson told reporters Thursday.
What the president wanted the vice president to do was not just wrong. It was illegal and unconstitutional, panel vice chair Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said.

(5,842 posts)... and after being told it was illegal, the orange motherfucker went out publicly, continuing his illegal plot to steal the presidency. Also? Eastman continuing his illegal efforts after admitting it was illegal to the orange motherfucker.
There's your criminal referrals right there: two for the price of one.
The committee has presented this whole thing perfectly so far. Just a master class in thoroughness, picking the right people to send the message, and each hearing has wrapped up with something memorable.
Now we get to talk about this until the next hearing on Tuesday.

(549 posts)Especially if something sticks and prevents the Cheeto Messiah from running in 24 could cause a major upheaval in America. He's damaged goods and if left alone the GOP will have no other option than to run him in 24 at the risk of splitting the party in two if they don't. So this may well be the best course for Dems as they have over 2 yrs more to damage his image to the small 10% of swing voters.
