(15,705 posts)I guess were conditioned to think that. 97 years old. I hope he stays healthy.

(15,705 posts)I definitely think hes the best post president by a mile.

(1,968 posts)According to the twitter thread. He's wearing the same shirt as several years ago.

(3,574 posts)Someone was sarcastically saying "Oh what a coincidence that he's wearing the exact same outfit."
Scroll down a bit and you'll see that a Ginger Sanders tweeted the exact same photo and text in 2017.
Not cool of Michael Brown to make it look as if it were his original tweet.
That said, Jimmy Carter has been a hero of mine since 1975. I was a teen when he first ran, but he was the first person I ever voted for in '80.

(43,155 posts)But the picture looks like a picture I saw reported several years ago.
It doesn't really matter. Even if it is a few years old, it's still a real story and shows what a great human being Jimmy Carter is.

(5,061 posts)My first thoughts: Jimmy, put on a mask! What are you doing on a plane? And shaking hands with everyone.

(2,021 posts)I was born in 1949, in Lagrange, Georgia. He is also the best ex-president EVER, in my humble opinion, in terms of the way he has conducted his post-presidency. Bless that man's noble heart.

(7,488 posts)I think historians will treat him much, much better than the intelligentsia and voters did during his presidency. He is a true role model.

(6,800 posts)would be John Quincy Adams, and I don't know enough details to assess how steep the competition would be - just hat, after being President, he agreed to run for and serve in Congress as a mere Representative, and died there. That impresses me.

It's too bad that gaslighting got him just one term.

(146,262 posts)I got to shake his hand on one flight. My wife and I were flying back to California. We didn't know he was on the plane. Then, I looked up and there he was, walking slowly back from 1st class, stopping to shake every hand in every row. A couple of Secret Service guys were ahead of and behind him.
Big smile on his face, and on ours, as well. A real gentleman.

for his own post-presidency. What did Jimmy Carter do? He and his wife started working with Habitat for Humanity, building homes for the homeless.

Hes on track for sainthood, I think. A man who's lived his faith. And when did Reagan ever do that?

(9,809 posts)years ago and Jimmy Carter was on the flight. He did exactly the same thing. They were thrilled, esp. since my sister, as a high school student, campaigned for Jimmy Carter when he ran for Governor of Georgia in 1966, though she was probably too shy to mention it to him.

(21,719 posts)You read in our history books of great Americans who had terrible flaws, personal scandals, glaring prejudices.
Jimmy doesn't have any of that. Just love and the drive to do good for all.
No wonder Republicans vilify him.

(9,146 posts)was running for president. It was early in the race, and he was flying commercial. He was running a little late and they held the flight for a few minutes so he could board.
Once they were airborne McGovern went through the plane shaking hands and apologizing for the inconvenience. Every one was nice about it except one woman. She loudly berated the senator for inconveniencing so many people. McGovern apologized again, and then leaned down and whispered in her ear, Madam, you are an asshole.

(8,684 posts)Of Man God would send to represent him, not a trump of any kind as projected by GQP Christians. He always has followed those teachings of Christ and to my knowledge still teaches Sunday School. If he would go to that Christian Jamboree that trump, Graham, Halley are Key Note speaking at this weekend, President Carter would be booed out of the venue. As would Jesus himself.
Todays American Christians have chased so many away from religion. I spent a career teaching and learning science, and like Ron Reagan Jr, not afraid to burn in hell. (And I hate heat, even dry heat) But if President Carter was teaching Sunday School here, I would go hear him interpret the book. And be willing to learn about just being a good person.

(9,760 posts)How so many people can fail to see right through to his evil, rotten core I will never understand. I don't care if I agreed with 100% of a candidate's beliefs, I would never support one as blatantly sleazy as him.

(5,810 posts)This is as much for his post Presidential years as his term of office. By volunteering for Habitat for Humanity and establishing The Carter Center, he has cemented his place in history in as good a way as one could hope to do. I voted for him and would do it again if given half a chance. It brings tears to my eyes thinking of him being gone, but his legacy is well established and when his time comes to go, he can Rest In Peace for a job well done.
He has taught Sunday School at his church for many years and has allowed visitors to drop in for a class if you want to see him teach. I dont know that he is still up to that, but you probably can check to find out.

(7,488 posts)I simply reposted something that was on twitter yesterday. I didn't know it was old or how old, so accusing me of knowingly posting something false (or that it was five years old) is not only dishonest but shows mal intent of your own. Why that is I can only guess. You want less dishonesty? Delete your defamatory post. You want more honesty? Apologize for a mistake you made in making a false accusation.
