They join at a roundabout, a block west.
My own apartment is 3 doors down and a number of dozen feet from the driveway entrance.
Both streets are 25 mph, less than half a block from my place.
Yet...
Three types of vehicles constantly ROAR past, going 40, 50, even faster.
Crotch rockets (Japanese motorcycles) Harleys and Hondas
Huge pickup trucks
Cars tricked out to make as much noise as possible, I still call them hot rods.
The noise these three groups make is just ridiculous.
And while every so often I see cops busting these assholes, (usually hot rodders,) they still roar past daily.

(70,022 posts)there's a traffic light at one end of the block and a stop sign at the other.
the street slopes a bit toward the lake, and it's easy to pick up speed. going both ways, oddly, because of a train underpass.
i hear that bs all summer, and have yet to see anyone get cracked.
we also have more than our fair share of drunk drivers plowing into whole lines of parked cars at 3am thanks to a bad bar a block away.
so great to have the windows open!

(53,743 posts)Soon as I move to another area, it'll get just as noisy.
And I'm a block west of a bus stop, (don't own a car,) so in winter I can get around.
The thing I didn't mention in my OP, it's the noisemaker vehicle drivers who whine and complain the most about the price of gas.
Have seen guys like this at the gas station across the street.
"Da price of gas is too high!" (Gets into his mega-Dodge RAM truck and roars off)

(31,919 posts)Even though my house sits back from the road about 75 ft., and there is a line of trees along the road, in the summer time when I would like to have my front door open, the sound of motorcycles, loud pickup trucks, construction vehicles, and the like, roar past so loud it makes conversation or tv watching impossible. Its gotten really bad within the last 5 years. Especially the motorcycles. Sometimes they blare music from their machines that has to be loud enough to hear over the roar of their engine. I guess theres no sort of law against excessively loud vehicles. I would love to live in a quieter neighborhood.
I dont understand the mindset that people dont think their ear splitting loud engines arent bothersome to residents.

(21,727 posts)That in NYC, citizens could use video proof of traffic violations to submit to the court and if accepted as proof, they issue a citation to the owner of the vehicle (by way of the plate number) and the citizen gets a cut of the ticket.
Where I live, people run the stop sign right outside my house ALL the time... Like dangerously so... A few accidents a month so. Mostly fender benders but it is only a matter of time till someone is killed. They also come flying out of the ally way on my street all the time... Same situation.
So I've begun asking the town to start up a similar program to the one in NYC. No luck yet but I keep trying.

(30,540 posts)cars and motorcycles race up and down it 24/7. It's the worst at night when you can hear the roar for miles as they speed along. These are really expensive cars too, I can only imagine how much they spend to gas them but they don't care. It's entertainment for them and the cops just let them get away with it.
