would have lain with those who were manipulating that mob - mobs don't think, particularly this one, but there was organisation behind it - previous recon, dirty money - it's all coming out. IF they had got their hands on Pelosi and Pence, they would have been forced to retain them, keep them alive, as hostages. At that point, the organisers (Repubs) would be holding a pretty full hand.

21. I think it would have been worse

they would have been taken as hostages - there was a direction and some leadership in that rabble, and a lot of distraction. Rather than instant bloody reprisal for killing leaders in the hallways, or kidnapping for some kind of formal execution, this country would have been locked in an agonizing battle of negotiation with succession held at gunpoint.

They're playing the long game here, and came very close to pulling it off.
