He is active now because the J6 hearings are showing him to be a callous, selfish, POS, criminal that no one can trust. He tried to get his own VP hanged, just so he could stay in power on some fake premise that Pence could just la dee da send the votes back. He is vengeful and spiteful. I think he needs to show his fans that he has some measure of mercy towards those that are felt to be behind his efforts, when in reality he doesn't give two shits about anyone else but himself.
There is some reason that he is now suddenly handing out promises of pardons. There are those guys who are facing prosecution for refusing subpoenas, and perhaps he needs to make sure that they remain silent. I don't think that he is caring about any one of the crowd that invaded the Capitol; he is thinking of those higher ups who could still give damaging information about his part in the coup attempt. I hope this means that he is sweating it out now. He would be afraid of the DOJ. Maybe he's heard something about Garland's intentions that is making him shit his diaper.
I don't think that people like this willingly give up power. He has had a taste of the power that being the head of his party brings, and that would require that he run for the Presidency. If he gets his hands on the Presidency again, we are toast.
Do you remember how fast he worked that first year, when almost every day he made some alteration to our government, our policies, and sundry other things; how he engaged in argument, put downs of other government heads, sucking up to the dregs of authoritarian government, and his obvious loyalty to Putin? His absolutely ridiculous response to the pandemic? Yes, of course everyone does. He thrives on chaos, like a drug.
If we don't act to keep this creep out of office, and maybe actually get him behind bars (which I doubt will happen), then we will be finished. And, just the GOP in general, a thoroughly fascist party as has been revealed, is the wrong choice, as they would love to do the same things that Trump was so good at doing. We don't mean a thing to them except as serfs.
