"SNIP......

The first reputable general election poll of Pennsylvania’s two key statewide races — released by USA Today Network and Suffolk University on Wednesday — shows Democrats leading in both, but in a better position to flip the U.S. Senate seat than hold the governor’s mansion.

In the Senate contest, Democratic candidate John Fetterman, Pennsylvania’s sitting lieutenant governor, is up by 9 points over Republican Mehmet Oz, the celebrity cardiothoracic surgeon, 46% to 37%, with 13% of respondents undecided.

And in the race for governor, Democrat Josh Shapiro, the state attorney general, leads Republican Doug Mastriano, a state senator, by a slimmer margin — just 4 points, 44% to 40% — with 13% of respondents again declaring themselves undecided.

The Suffolk University Political Research Center polled 500 likely general election voters between June 10 and 13, and though 43% of participants were Democrats and 39% Republican, their votes in the 2020 election were split just about evenly between Joe Biden and Donald Trump: 46% to 45%.

Because I don't see them. Not now. Not anymore. Mr Dixie & I both work full time and our jobs bring us into daily contact with a broad cross-section of people. As a general rule, we don't initiate political discussions, but we have no problem engaging if someone else brings it up. And almost always, someone brings it up in one way or another. Be it TFG, BLM and/or issues of racial inequality, COVID protocols such as mask-wearing and vaccinations, inflation issues such as gas prices (and who's to blame), food prices (and who's to blame), healthcare costs (and who's to blame), LGBTQ, abortion rights, etc., etc., etc., I haven't met even one person who is "undecided" in their view(s). Not one person. No hyperbole. NOT. ONE. PERSON.

I'm not sure if one or both of us is giving "people who don't spend endless hours on political blogs" too much credit or not enough credit, but I don't believe one needs to even be informed to have an opinion, one way or another. If anything, TFG supporters prove one needn't be informed AT ALL.

TBH, my question of "who the fuck are these [undecided] people" was tongue-in-cheek. My personal opinion is that, like unicorns, they don't really exist.

If your goal is to get people to vote for Democrats, the first and most critical step is to understand who they are and to build a electoral strategy on that basis. Deciding that none of the electorate are disaffected and uninterested because none of the people YOU know are is not the best way to start that process.

I always appreciate someone who doesn't know me telling me that my opinions, based on my life experiences, are terrible.

Is the second step telling them the opinion they hold is terrible?

If you expect us to win in November based on a flawed analysis of the electorate at large, I'm going to be critical, based on my 40+ years working in politics, and my connections to political leadership in the real world.

You are, of course, free to ignore anything I say.

Shapiro is in the shadow of the current governor, Tom Wolf, who was very unpopular amongst Republicans because of mask mandates. I was told by a budding MAGAt how she hates Wolf, she will only go to restaurants that never cooperated with the state on mask mandates and who pass out Trump literature. Seriously. And Mastriano outworked his GOP field with relentless small town meetings for about 12 months, before anyone even knew what was going on. As sharp as he is, if Shapiro thinks MAGA will respond to defending voting rights and Mastriano is a creep, he's going to make it worse. He needs to visit all counties, just like Fetterman, and sell his gas rebate program and financial support for health care and women's health care.

Look at the history of the state's choices. Very few 'non-Pennsylvanians' win elections here.

Fetterman is going to win big.

Shapiro - well, we are going to have to work our butts off to #GOTV2022.

We CAN do it.

I haven't seen one sign for Oz. I really wanted Oz to win. Magats will have to vote for a Muslim who lives in New Jersey.

Mastriano is a crazy religious kook, and I use the word religious loosely. He was sent by god to wage war against the evil Democrats.

I think this version of a past post is applicable (re: Shapiro/Mastriano) - https://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1074&pid=16454

When Shapiro ran for AG in 2016 and 2020, he actually got more votes than both Democratic and Republican candidates for President here in PA -

And I read an article in the Inquirer yesterday where there was this -

How the Pa. Republican establishment broke itself trying to stop Doug Mastriano

by Andrew Seidman and Chris Brennan
Updated May 20, 2022

(snip)

As the GOP turns its focus toward the general election against Democratic nominee Josh Shapiro, Republicans are also trying to assess what went wrong over the last several months. While party chair Tabas has been reluctant about imposing edicts from above, many now are pointing the finger at him, saying he failed to provide leadership.

A prominent Republican active in Pennsylvania politics, who requested anonymity to speak freely about party conversations, predicted that some prominent GOP members will publicly support Shapiro over Mastriano. And after November’s general election, Tabas may see a call for a new party chair.

“The general consensus is he failed to lead and left this thing to fester,” the Republican said.

“It’s an act of political malpractice that the Republican State Committee didn’t do much to shape or condition the field months ago,” said former GOP U.S. Rep Charlie Dent, adding that his criticism wasn’t aimed at Tabas specifically. “Everyone was worried Mastriano could prevail in a crowded, multi-candidate field.”

(emphasis mine)

So he seems to have garnered sustained bipartisan support across the state!

Keep in mind too that Mastriano is a key criminal insurrectionist who is the subject of the J6 Committee.
