Diminishing Returns

The Republican party is shrinking - and it's by their own design.

They don't want LGBT people, they don't want people of colour. They don't want immigrants - especially those of the non-Aryan variety. They don't want intelligent people who believe in science, and they don't want educated people who are literate and actually read.

They don't want people with enough common sense to know when they're being scammed, or recognize when they're being lied to.

They don't want people who ask questions - or people who don't accept being spoon-fed answers.

They don't want non-Christians - which includes people who choose to follow Christ's teachings, and refuse to abandon the principles taught by the Nazarene.

They don't want people who reject the idea that all problems can be solved by a gun, that all differences can be settled by violence, that all arguments can be won by a show of arms.

They don't want people who choose democracy over authoritarianism, who prefer honesty over hypocrisy, and who have decided that freedom is a right and not something to be doled-out by politicians if and when they choose to do so.

Where all of this is heading is obvious. Eventually, there will be only two groups of Republicans left: the politicians that remind the dwindling faithful who they are permitted to accept as part of their ranks, and the dwindling faithful who continue to fund their campaigns and elect them.

As is always the case with the GOP, they never bother to think things through. Every demographic they vilify, scorn, dismiss as undesirable is a demographic whose votes they've lost forever.

I, for one, look forward to the inevitable implosion when the Republicans realize that the ignorant, illiterate, knuckle-dragging sheep they've based all their hopes on aren't enough to elect them as dog-catchers.

My interaction of choice is to laugh at them and call them “Q’s”.

As they live and breathe they have no concept what they represent. Being a good Republican is the same as being a good Nazi

... requires the intelligence to comprehend context, the ability to appreciate nuance, and the intellectual capacity to understand the subtleties of satirical content.

Republicans lack all of the above.

In a world full of comedic brilliance, Republicans can only laugh at whoopie-cushions, water-squirting bow-ties, and punchlines about poo-poo and pee-pees.

that is truth right there

Unfortunately Republicans don't care that their "base" won't be populace enough to win elections. They've been pretty open about their intentions to overturn or ignore elections completely. Ultimately voters, & votes, don't matter to Republicans. We are irrelevant. Once in power, they plan to keep that power, & increase it into a totalitarian state.

Prof. Stanley points out the glorification of the Jan 6th violence and how it MUST be stopped - also the importance of "one person, one vote" - so incredibly important.

it matters who counts the votes. Their next step is to find a way to do away with elections. A fascist governor will appoint politicians.

In America, as you say, it now does not matter who votes - it matters who COUNTS the votes. That gives me the willies.

They have and are taking control of position overseeing votes, as well as using gerrymandered maps. They only need their plans to work for the next two election cycles and there won’t be any more fair elections; game over.

If he isn’t arrested, frogmarched and put on trial, they may get away with it. If he is, get ready for utter hell in the streets. That still doesn’t fix the gerrymandering.

The plan is to have a permanent 1950s going, before they get really settled in and dial it back a couple more decades.

There is no way around it. This year is going to end worse than it has already been; and they still have yet to announce Roe.

Or easy access to abortion. 70 percent of the country wants those things But guess what? We have none of those things because our idiot founders created a system that fosters minority rule wherein 30 percent of the population can dictate terms to the other 70. It’s why America SUCKS.

Their play book is to drive most Americans to the side lines leaving the fanatics in control of the playing field. They count on the four horsemen of befuddlement, despair, apathy, and intimidation to make increasing numbers of Americans turn off completely to politics. That's how they've already used the relative low turnout of off year elections to seize control of local governments and state legislatures, where they rig the rules to self perpetuate their power on the state and national levels.
