"I could shoot someone on 5th Ave and my voters would not care". When Trump discovered millions of Americans would believe anything he said or did he could not resist. He knew it gave him immense power.
For a narcissist, a person who has no morals, no shame, a lust for corruption, it was like hitting the lottery. I think even Trump was surprised when he discovered this.
Through the years most everything Trump said or did was directed towards his brainwashed voters. He told them the silliest, foolish, lies imaginable. In many cases his corruption was done right out in the open. Trump knew this evil power over his voters would also control the Republicans in congress. They feared Trumps voters.
When you get right down to it, the true evil in America is the brainwashed Trump voters.

(47,357 posts)and he kept testing the waters to see if there was anything he could do or say that would turn off his voters. Nope, nothing. He became more and more emboldened and yes, he recognized the extraordinary power he held. He became drunk with that power, believing he was some rare human being with no limits. That is probably why he thought he could subvert a national election and stay in office.
Beware the man who believes limits don't apply to him.

from his mentor, Roy Cohn. Cohn got away with everything, e.g., tax evasion, legal ethics, extortion, bribery. He said that if he could have, he would have pulled the lever of the electrocution of the Rosenbergs.
Trump was taught that you CAN get away with all kinds of shit, save for death.

(14,012 posts)That's one source of evil that really needs curtailing somehow. The platforms for facist demi-gods like Trump and his minions.
For instance, our airwaves got a lot quieter after Trump was yanked from Twitter.

(10,151 posts)Just that people voted for him and worshipped him.
It's his followers that amaze me. They let their elderly die for him by ignoring Covid precautions. They see he has a narcissist Slavanian sex worker as his 3rd wife and they call him the One.
What kind of psychosis does America have that makes them think this stupid man is worth voting for? We have a broken society.

(7,430 posts)Millions never acquired a knowledge base about the legitimate workings of government. They believe that all government is corrupt, but can't really define what government is and how it's supposed to work.

(617 posts)I think this has a lot to do with it. I was taught that American exceptualism was the fact that we were "first" in self governing when we formed. I've seen it defined in many ways but very rarely do I hear it defined the way I learned it. Seems like such a basic civics lesson that we need to teach.

The words he spoke on the escalator were a clear dog whistle for the racist among us.
This ignorant crowd knows the white European majority in America has only a few years left.

(3,483 posts)I mean, do you think he actually BELIEVES that he's the victem? That if he didn't succeed at something, it was because someone cheated him out of it? After all, if you believe that you're the BEST (and I have no doubt that he believes that), and you fail, then someone must be to blame for that failure (Pence? Biden? Barr? Deep State?).

(6,178 posts)I am no WW II historian, but I think the parallels between the Nazi / Hitler and the red hat MAGA / Trump fascism are the same.
Reversing this nightmare will take decades. Look, we still have brown shirts marching in the streets of America 75 years after Hitler swallowed a pill.

The only things "original" when he is on a stage are his repeated lies, his proven applause lines, and his stupid F...ing dance!

(2,254 posts)You just keep saying the same thing over and over and over...some people will eventually believe it. Putin does the same thing. He's got half the Russian population thinking his invasion of Ukraine was righteous. There are more people than you think who want to be subordinate to somebody. In Trump's case, he says what many people just want to hear.

The Republican party embraced him because they were headed in Trump's direction for decades before he came along.
He is only the public spokesperson. Even without him, there are many more holding the same attitudes, pushing in the same direction, financed by American oligarchs. They are the ones to watch out for. Getting rid of Trump will not stop them.

(526 posts)I think not, trump is just a simply a grift/thief. The thing you have to remember is that trump was in financial straights and loosing every thing he was doing financially. He was even know for NOT PAYING contractors when they did millions in labor for him. Hell trump had to hold a jo, I don't know the name of the show because I don't watch that crap. This self proclaimed "millionaire" had to get 450k fronted to him by the show. The shows spoke man said 'it would look bad if their millionaire was seen to not have any money'. When the grifter got the presidential power he started charging you and me for every penny he could. He made his security stay at trump Towers, he doesn't own the other trump hotels they only lease his name, because he was loosing money. He grifted you and me by playing at the golf course he he owns, Mr "I won't have time to play golf if I'm elected president". Where is the trump plane(?) parked with flat tires. He borrows others rich peoples planes to get around. JUST A SIMPLE GRIFTER is all you are seeing so please open your eyes. trump knew he was going to be indicted for at least some of his wrong doings after he got out of the presidential position. The January 6 insurrection was just simply an attempt for the grifter to NOT GET INDICTED and go to prison. It's always about money with trump. Then I found this from someone who truly know him:

(2,809 posts)We had the audacity to dare elect the nation's first black president. How dare we.
The first mindfukker who consoled their racist stupidity with that birther crap won their blackened little hearts.
No hypocrisy or impropriety matters as long as Trump wearing the proverbial KKK hood. Submit any of Trump's specific crimes to a Trump supporter, grab an airsick bag to observe the childish little giggle and "Oh, that's just Trump being Trump". Remember that displaying that cringeworthy level of ignorance to any adult is a "trigger the lib" bullying tactic.
The very, very "white" side of my family set their preexistent yet previously mostly taciturn racist separation from our "west coast" branch in concrete right after November 2008. We contain the disallowed melanin-activated genetic line from way back. One of my older siblings warned me after that election not to bother attempting to bridge the gap: now with the anti-LGBTQ shit they've resuscitated it's vitally imperative I comply.
