Is that still ok here?

(22,250 posts)I certainly plan to vote for every single Democrat on my ballot!!
I only voted for one Republican in my entire voting life: Senator Howard Baker when I lived in Tennessee. He was a great Senator; I knew the woman who ran against him and I could not stand her.
By the way I cast my first vote in 1967. That is a lot of elections.

Sorry, I have to qualify that, if lived in Arizona I would've worked like hell to primary Sinema and would hold my nose and with great reluctance would check for her on the general election ballot if she defeated the primary challengers. As far as W. Virginia, Manchin is entrenched there with no chance of dislodging his DINO behind in that deep, red state.

(10,146 posts)In the old days voting machines had a switch that allowed one to vote straight Democratic (or Republican) ticket. Voters didn't even have to read the individual candidates' names on the ballot, just pull the lever and done. Pulling on the lever even opened the privacy curtain on the voting booth.
I'm always suspicious of people who tell me, "Sometimes I vote for a Republican, it depends on the candidate's positions." These voters are either lying, or they don't know all Republicans take their marching orders from the RNC.

(10,132 posts)thanks to California's top-two-primary-finishers-go-to-November system.
One is the incumbent, not too dynamic but responsive: her office always replies to my emails, and I've heard she's help several constituents with problems dealing with the federal bureaucracies. The other is a Bernie Bro who is somewhat evasive about his background, offers the usual pie in the sky platform, and whose main attack on his opponent is her age (and judging by what he puts in the voters' guide sometimes has problems constructing a sentence). Now I think the incumbent needs to be grooming some successors, but I think she's still the better choice.

The only time I wouldn't vote for a Democrat is if he's charged with murder or pedophilia or some other vicious crime. Even then, I won't vote for the R or anyone else. I'll just leave that slot blank.

(7,700 posts)...very fortunate to have any Dems on the ticket in the local races!
When I was gathering signatures for Chris Rodkey a local Dem running for state rep, I actually had two Dems who would not sign the petition "until they knew more" than what was on the flyer I was handing out.
I thought to myself, that they should be happy to sign like 99% of the rest of the Dems in my neighborhood.
On the good side, I had two neighbors who were surprised there were other Dems like me in our neighborhood!

(25,816 posts)it's important to never vote Repub. I'm 71 and have always voted a straight D line.
But now that the stark differences of the parties have become more extreme, It's more of a
necessity than ever to elect D's. On the local level too people. I hate when my ballot shows a R
running unopposed--we need more qualified candidates so that cannot happen.

Okay, I'm exaggerating a little. In the past there have been a few, VERY few, decent Republicans. But the more I learned about the party and its plans, the more I wanted to vote D just to block them.
Here in Oregon, we had a decent Secretary of State, Dennis Richardson. I didn't vote for him, but he wound up winning. It turns out he counted votes fairly and complied with the law, which is what you need in an SoS. That was just in 2017, and it seems like an eternity ago.
But I don't think I can ever trust another Republican in any elected office because they have become too radicalized, truly bonkers.
So I used to be willing to vote for an R, never did, and now I never will
ever.
