(82,849 posts)So of course he forgot about it or (more likely) it never registered with him that that's what happened. In Maherworld, government spending on the wealthy is as it should be, but government spending to benefit the underclass is worse than Hitler times Stalin squared.

(3,678 posts)I pay a lot of attention to news and don't recall hearing about "fed action" for Wall Street on Covid (though I do remember 2008/9s Wall Street bailout). I don't pay a ton of attention to economic details though.

(25,472 posts)I don't know why anybody thinks Ball, who hates Democrats, is a big "progressive."
In It to Win It
(8,240 posts)She doesnt think Democrats are progressive enough. She appears to extremely uncompromising when it comes to progressive issues so she criticizes Democrats.

(25,472 posts)In It to Win It
(8,240 posts)She's for Medicare-for-all, universal pre-k, and stuff like that. She calls herself a "Bernie Sanders leftist." IIRC, on this same Bill Maher episode, she said she supported Biden's COVID relief bill and I believe she said she also supports the Biden's Build Back Better plan. She said she didn't think the BBB plan went far enough, or at least, she implied that she felt that way. She wants a Green New Deal.
On the other side, she thinks the Democratic Party isn't serious about their position for these things or that their support is disingenuous. I remember her campaigning for Democrats in past but that was quite some time ago when I saw it. She thinks Democrats won't deliver so she blasts them. AFAIK, she is on the "no compromise" part of the political spectrum.

Loves to call Democrats corrupt corporatist centrist establishment elites who hate the working class, rigging conspiracy theories. Now she's more Both Sides Lite because those old insults aren't as popular anymore. According to twitter comments, a lot of people claim not to know her.
One of those people who hate Democrats, like Tulsi Gabbard or Nina Turner, who say they're "progressive" and everybody believes it for some reason. For example Ball: "Previewing Hellish Future of a Biden Administration."
Seeing people praising Ball, who has helped Republicans/Russia is quite nauseating.

RW assholes and then, at times, austerity hawks like Manchin and Sinema always (RW) or far too often (Manchinema) leave out that even more than 1400 USD per person was sent out in cheques under the orange pos, and they leave out the trillions of USD in expansionist Fed injections straight into the markets.
The bad thing is, the average American's eyes gloss over most of (or all of, in far too many cases) the time when you start to talk Fed fiscal policy, even when you dumb it down to the simplest of grade school English.
Try dropping important concepts like exogenous shocks or Treasury yield curves and they start to go into shut down/ brain seize mode and/or walk/run away.

(90,335 posts)... ETFs then kept rates too low for too long knowing pandemics are inflationary.
This was all done under Trump
Trump threatened to demote fed chief Powel at one time when he said he was going to increase interest rates.

I just don't know if taking interest rate hammer to this problem is the answer outside of housing

(25,472 posts)because money, but Bill Maher who's donated millions of dollars to elect democrats and always supports Democrats is bad? Idiots.
womanofthehills
(8,700 posts)He can be an asshole even though I watch his show - I watch basically because hes a comedian. He went on and on last year -so angry that Americans were getting a measly $1200 but he has no problem or knowledge of big business getting the money.
Crystal ran as a Dem in Virginia yrs ago and also has raised millions to support dems.

(7,281 posts)For me, if the person that needs to be schooled isn't listening but talking over the other person who is doing the informing, that information isn't getting through. it isn't even being heard.
On purpose, Maher interrupts any and all attempts to be properly informed about anything he's quite wrong about. He doesn't accept that he could possibly be wrong about anything. Like Trump. A Narcisist. Which is a trait I do not find to be the least bit entertaining

(10,624 posts)Of the two, Maher is clearly the least informed. (Shocking, I know.)
Inflation is worldwide phenomenon right now. What could be the cause? I can't say for certain, but it'd have to be something that affected the whole world, right?
Pretty sure that $1,400 check i got from President Biden isn't it. It got spent long, long ago. Besides, Germans and Englishmen didn't get them, did they?
Likewise, the "billions of dollars" Ms. Ball claims was showered on Wall Street was actually just the Fed's efforts at keeping interest rates low. Yes, corporations and investors benefited from that, but borrowers on Main St. benefited from that, too. Allowing interest rates to soar when so many people's jobs were insecure would have been an ignorant thing to do.
So, what could possibly be the problem then? What could have disrupted the whole word's economy?
There are a couple of obvious choices: the pandemic, and the war in Ukraine.
And President Biden is handling both of those situations much better than any Republican ever would, especially that idiot who held office before him.
