(20,672 posts)The civilian Army National Guard perhaps. The Air National Guard is under the auspice of the US Air Force.
The Military bases is Texas would not take too kindly to Abbott. I have stayed at Dyess, Lackland, golfed at Randolph AFB, stayed at the Naval Station in Fort Worth. The 3 AFB are HUGE complexes that are cities within themselves.
The Texas GOP are NOT thinking at all.

(33,424 posts)Texas sent $261 billion in taxes to the federal government and got back $40 billion in grants to the state (2016 last year figures are available). That is a return of 15%.

(29,346 posts)For instance, the scores of billions of dollars that the military spends in Texas each year are a pretty important part of Texas's economy. I don't have the numbers handy, but while overall Texas does still typically contribute more than they take from the federal budget, it is much closer to even in the final analysis.

(71,394 posts)... runs the show is not because we Democrats get out and vote in proportion of the population.
Get Democrats to run for every office against GOP candidates, and to vote in every election.

(25,816 posts)Arizona, where I live, gets bashed too. At any given time, I've seen most states bashed here on DU.
There are many good Democrats in every state. When I ask, like you, "What state are you from?",
I never get an answer because there is no state without some embarrassment.

(13,746 posts)some of the very best people I know are in Houston and rural parts of Texas. This is NOT WHO THEY ARE. I also feel that moves like this by the state GOP will ultimately turn the state more purple.
so sick of this kind of divisiveness.

(3,557 posts)Didnt Lincoln fight a war that was partly over that? If Im not mistaken, he was fighting to keep the union together, but Im a little fuzzy on my history.
Texas and the southern states represent the worst things that this county has to offer. It wouldnt hurt my feelings one bit to see them leave.

No bill has been filed. Texas does not have a legislative session until 2023.
Every session someone files a bill to secede. The bill never makes it out of cmte.
