Seeing as how the previous record was under $5 million.

Nice gesture of the auctioneer, Heritage Auctions, to waive all fees, which would have been somewhere around 15%, and instead did it literally for free, picking up all costs themselves.

The Ukrainians get 100% of the selling price, rare enough in the auction business, and unheard-of for a single object at this price level.

From the AP article:

Muratov has said the proceeds will go directly to UNICEF in its efforts to help children displaced by the war in Ukraine. Just minutes after bidding ended, UNICEF told the auction house it had already received the funds.

He also asked that the unsuccessful bidders make a direct donation to UNICEF. (Muratov himself has donated the $500,000 prize that he received with the award.)
