It is clear, the Frankenstein Monster is trying to kill its creator.

We are now watching the far, far right extremists attacking the far right extremists. The Republican Party has splintered into an uncontrollable monster. It's not sustainable, the Republican Party is heading for a day of reckoning. It's going to be ugly.

I see it in the pattern of the rise of the Third Reich.

What we're witnessing is "purification" of the movement.

Hitler started out with partnerships, necessary to gain incremental and stronger political support. Then at some point, it was decided to eliminate former partners, such as Julius Streicher and Ernst Röhm (Night of the Long Knives) as they would become too strong in the Party and become rivals to Hitler.

The Far, Far Right will not compromise its principles, especially with others in the Republican Party.

I feel nervous about this metamorphosis.

We have more comprehensive and robust mass media, more resistance from the rest of the public, and stronger democratic traditions. We also have real time telecommunications in an open society. We cannot be snuffed or entirely hoodwinked. Moreover, we have a superior and mostly patriotic military. The Right is an extraneous ragtag neo-military. So I remain hopeful that the outcomes will not be similar, though they may echo here or there.

They have already eliminated many obstacles by pushing sane Republicans either out of the party or marginalizing them, like Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger. While Trump support did not result in 100% of his rabid candidates winning their primaries, the majority of them did. And those candidates are more like Boebert and Greene than they are like Kinzinger.

Members of the Proud Boys have run for office and won in Florida. They are a terrorist organization now embedded in government. I expect to see that replicated around the country. Organizations like Moms for Liberty are well funded and have the sole purpose of creating chaos and spreading lies that not only riles up the base but also appeals to suburban voters who now think their kids are being indoctrinated to hate white people.

Using Trump’s Big Lie, Republican legislatures have given themselves new ways to overturn elections by claiming fraud and they have the Trump-appointed judges to let those claims stand with little or no proof. Texas judges are a good example. If it’s a Republican claim, they will support it, just as they and the Supreme Court did with an abortion law that was blatantly unconstitutional with Roe still in place.

The new Texas Republican Platform calls for the 17th Amendment to be abolished, giving back the right for state legislatures the right to appoint US senators and thus giving Republicans more power. What happens in one Republican legislature usually gets adopted by other states. While repealing the 17th Amendment is unlikely to happen, it demonstrates that these people are serious about establishing themselves as a new permanent government in as many states as possible and at the federal level. They also call for abolishing the Voting Rights Act entirely.

And they are not only willing but eager to use violence. The extremists have spent years building up their arsenals, and they’re ready to take whatever actions leaders like Trump call for to eliminate Democrats and indeed people in their own party who do not toe the lie. This Republican Party is no longer a political organization with ideas for governing. It is a terrorist organization exactly like ISIS bent on establishing the equivalent of a caliphate of the whole country under their control. They may overreach and sane people may push back hard eventually, but around 40% believe Trump’s lies and some of them are running for state elections offices to gain control of certifying the winners of state and federal elections.

Far too much of our populace has their heads buried in the sand and see nothing of this. Many of them have voted for Republicans their whole lives and they will not change now. And many of the younger generations either just don’t vote or just don’t care enough to learn what is going on. I hope enough people wake up to the dangers soon to stop this madness, but I’m not optimistic.

While I am not in the least bit surprised, what is truly disturbing is the overwhelming majority, like 95+%, of the party people and their electorate, are transitioning with absolutely no resistance, and mostly liking where it is headed.

WE get it, but we are barely 40% of the electorate.

Unless a LOT more people see the grave situation we are in NOW and start taking action, we have not hope.

Even if this country recognizes that it is about to be flipped into a full on authoritarian, chrisofascist idiocracy, and starts to fight back, our chances are slim.

This has been building for a LONG time, and I know a lot of every day people who know what is coming and are salivating for it ...

Nazi Germany is brought up is, "Well, Hitler was a socialist. Nazis were national socialists!"

To your point, when Hitler began to get really powerful, he needed the German oligarchs on his side. So he got rid of the socialists, and gave over control of the economy to Krupp, IG Farben, etc.

Then, when he needed the Wehrmacht and the German Officer Corps on his side, he got rid of Rohm and some of the other SA elements, then absorbed the remainder of them either into the Army or the SS.

Ironically, both the oligarchs and the Officer Corps thought they could control Hitler. But they couldn't because Hitler also knew he needed a violent mob of true believers to take and keep power. Interestingly, if you look at testimonies of various SS personnel caught after the war, the rank and file were true believers. Himmler, Goering, Heydrich and other top Nazis also were true believers, but cynical also. Many who ran the camps were 'organization men' - people who did not care one way or the other about the human beings they were killing, but only about achieving maximum efficiency and volume at killing.

And then the rank and file Germans? They were the proverbial 'good people who did NOTHING.' My father, a WWII vet, was fond of saying that Hitler sold the German people a 'bill of goods.' Those who protested, such as our BLM, pro-choice, occupy Wall Street, and others, were removed from society - rounded up and sent to places like Bergen Belsen and Auschwitz where they could be murdered along with millions of slavic peoples, LGBTQ people, Romany people, individuals with disabilities, Jehovah's Witnesses, and Jews.

But did he really? Or were those rank and file Germans so fearful of the Nazis that even though they KNEW, or guessed, they were scared to stand up lest it happen to them.

Hitler was a cancer, corrupting everything that had been good and noble about Germany and its people.

Trump is a cancer, corrupting everything that has been good and noble about the United States.

None of us will miss anything. And we (Democrats) didn't create anything, republicans did it all to themselves. This is especially enjoyable knowing this, especially coming from the Party that knows everything!

tRUMP was probably about to lose his businesses due to no money, and looked around, and saw the republican party grasping at straws, any straws to stay alive, so he jumped in, saw an easy mark.

Boy, since then, haven't the republicans paid and paid for the donald to run their party into the ground? One thing too, that's good that he sucked up over $250 million dollars of which I bet most of it is already gone, spent to try and salvage what little scraps of tRUMP's businesses remain in operation.

I guess Karma is best served cold, eh? Serves them right. But perhaps we should hold out our hands in friendship, and see if they are receptive to any of our ideas, receptive to any Democratic Party concepts and/or proposals? After all, isn't that what two competing Parties do in this Country, jostle and tussle until an acceptable compromise is reached, and viola, a new bill is proposed and passed!

I listened to Thom Hartmann a couple of months ago talk about the biggest threat to our democracy, no one would guess what he said; not taxing the rich. Back when Reagan was president we had 4 billionaires and today we have 400. With Citizens United those billionaires can own as many politicians as they like. Those domestic oligarchs chose our Supreme Court justices, those domestic oligarchs wrote/write legislation for Republicans.

Going back to taxing the rich is a long row to hoe, damn near impossible, they are in control now.
