Video making the rounds on social media shows a Miami-Dade police officers comments to a man during a traffic stop, News 6 partner WPLG reported.
The stop took a threatening turn for the driver, who was heading to work.
Give me your drivers license, registration and insurance, the officer says in the video. If not, you will not be going to work today.
The MDPD officer then made a very bold statement to the man.
Simple thing, man. This is how you guys get killed out here, man, the officer said.

I don't know how to embed (and sorry but you have to cut-n-paste it into your browser) the video but it is a must see... A straight up threat of racist murder by the cop for zero reason... Fucking insane.

If anyone knows how to embed or put in a direct link, please let me know and I'll update the OP.

(17,425 posts)Black people (black men, especially, I would think) have to worry about shit like this every time they leave the house. Every single time.
I don't think it matters where they live either. Seems to be happening everywhere. We can't say that the video is an "exception" because in the age of camera phones, there are literally THOUSANDS of videos out there showing this kind of stuff.
What the hell are people supposed to do when they get an aggressive cop like that?
Fucking infuriating.

(1,296 posts)brag that any black person who drives into town is followed until he leaves.
I found that documented in the "sundown towns" database, and it refers to a place within ten miles of Berkeley -- a place I lived one city limit away from back around 2010. Its name is Orinda.

(9,170 posts)(oops, THE ACADEMY, with the skies opening, golden sunlight streaming down, as angels descend playing heavenly music on harps) entrance exam that they were accepted IQ of 104 tops and then went through the extensive training. In my state its 16 whole weeks. 75-80% consists of physical training, hand-to-hand combat and the gun range. Or as its known in the real world recess.
These extensively trained geniuses are then certified, and ultimately swear an oath to protect the Constitution (which the vast majority have never, and will never, read). In all but the smallest towns, they make six figures. If they werent cops, many would at best qualify for a job at McDonalds. Not the fryer, or flipping burgers, perhaps, but refilling the mustard dispenser, or something. Which definitely doesnt pay six figures.

(4,552 posts)Reading the definition of fascism creates a clearer picture.
Fascism is a form of far-right, authoritarian ultranationalism, characterized by dictatorial power, forcible suppression of opposition, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.
Police believe they are superior to us. This will not stand.

(11,736 posts)The ubiquity of cell phone cameras have shown many interactions where police take instantly aggressive tone with people of color.
This is the latest example, not "one" example.
My brother in law is a police officer and a fine human being, I have, however, heard talk with regards to policing and discussions with him and police friends that is disturbing in the way they see "civilians" versus the police. They system and concept of policing puts an "Us v. Them" mentality up front.
I certainly do not think "All Cops Are Bad" (or Bastards, as the saying goes). I do think that policing today has a toxic side and that the incentive structure in policing is leading to more and more confrontation and that something needs to change.

(5,969 posts)So the comment about getting killed out here could refer to that. I don't think anything will happen to the cop or that a lawsuit will be successful. At least not based on that short video. Body cam footage could reveal something else.
Edit: Watched and read it again and I have to say the way it was worded was very strange ("you guys" ). When you talk like this, there has to be some bias there, in my opinion. It just feels weird.

(16,370 posts)That the officer - who seems to lack the temperament for the job - was expressing anger over the fact the guy in the car wouldnt give him his license without arguing about it. We dont see the beginning of the clip so its unknown how this began.

(4,552 posts)I get it.
I was a teen in the 70s and had long hair. For a long time I had zero respect for police because of how they treated me. I am still on my guard.
Thing is all I had to do is get a hair cut. I get it, and it gets old fast.
I was a maintenance machinist for years. Jeans and a tee shirt. In my 40s I was hired to a foreman's position. Nice shirt khakis. The difference of how I was treated in public was shocking to me.
None of my stories help the racism problem in America.

Having friends in those groups makes it more personal, but I'd been taught to care even without having friends waaaay back.
