I am a Texan and a proud American. I will fight to my last breath to preserve the Union, whether it be against Texas right wingers or the Cascadia morons on the west coast. I won't be divided from my fellow Americans, and will not be "othered" for living in a state with an uphill political battle. 5,259,126 Texans voted for President Biden. Those votes, and lives, mean something.
Secession talk is making something of a comeback and I will stand firm against it. And it's not only Texas, and it's not only the right.

(16,352 posts)It would solve 2 problems. 1, With apologies to Dems in those states it removes tens of millions of toxic people from the population of the US and their influence over the rest of us in elections. 2, Without the EC votes that are locked in to the GOP in perpetuity (Im not bullish on Texas ever going blue) well never have another GOP president.
Is any of this realistic? Absolutely not. Zero chance Texas or any other state secedes.

(2,067 posts)Should be treated as such. There are times I wish Texas should just secede and be done with it maybe Florida should also.

I'm expecting this cycle to be no different; just a lot of bumper stickers read in annoyingly loud, beer-bellied voices followed by the inevitable slumber that only a 12-pack of Old Milwaukee can bring.
I figure after this week, it'll get the play it wants, and it's half-life will be over with nary a piece of legislation about it even given consideration.

(31,965 posts)But they can secede constitutionally. So it is not treason. The Supreme Court said so in Texas v. White (1868). But it is not easy. They have to get the approval of both Houses of Congress and then 3/4s of the nation's legislatures.

Its all in how you argue it in front of the Supreme Court.
Also who sits on it.
