Vlad says the Geneva Conventions don’t apply to Americans fighting in Ukraine because
a) this isn’t a war?
b) they’re not “really” soldiers?
c) whatever Vlad says is the god’s honest truth so shut the fuck up.
Yeah. C. Definitely C.
And all I can think of is the excuses that W’s administration made when the U.S. was “caught” torturing prisoners after we illegally invaded Iraq.
a) but they’re terrorists!
b) what if there’s a ticking bomb somewhere?
c) whatever W (i.e. Cheney) says is the god’s honest truth so shut the fuck up.
We have no moral high ground here. Our government has blatantly ignored international law for decades, and now our citizens (and innocent civilians all over the world) pay the price. The Geneva Conventions are now meaningless. Dictators, um, dictate the rules of engagement with civilians and prisoners, so rape, theft, indiscriminate murder of children…yeah whatever.
We let fucking CHILDREN run around our own country with AR-15’s murdering anyone in their path.
We detain black and brown people at hugely disproportionate rates, and sometimes allow cops to execute them with no consequences whatsoever.
We throw others into concentration camps on the southern border—silently, so no one will make a fuss.
We are slaves to corporate greed because…socialism is scary?! WTF?!
And we claim to do it all in the name of…what? Christianity? Patriotism? Safety? Freedumb?
People don’t understand how Russian citizens can “allow” their government to behave so callously against Ukraine.
Sigh.
