After *conviction* of beating up girlfriend, right to own guns automatically restored in 5 years:

This is how Republicans defanged the closing of the "boyfriend" loophole" during negotiations over text of bill.

Republicans successfully secured the following concession:

After you are CONVICTED of beating up your girlfriend, your right to own a firearm is AUTOMATICALLY RESTORED after five years

Thank goodness someone is looking out for men who beat up their partners

As we wait for bill text, we're told that under the closing the "boyfriend loophole" provision, there's an automatic restoration of guns rights after five years if an individual has no other convictions for a violent crime.

to toss out as many GOP as we can in both houses of Congress and to get more Dems and Dem women in those seats.

Oh, and in governor's seats too!

They can get their guns back but not voting rights. In Mississippi, even after a person finishes their sentence and satisfies a bunch of other requirements, each person has to have a bill written/sponsored in their name to regain voting rights. Many of the "bills", then just die. Quite the "democracy" we live in. Europe and Canada do not have laws like this.

If they were, gun possession like voting rights would not be restored at all.

These are misdemeanor charges that do not affect voting rights.
