She unexpectedly became a public figure through no fault of her own.

Not that Supreme Court justices, even the worst of them, deserve what she's gone through.

Last week a Republican friend was complaining about SCOTUS justices and threats against them. Saying they need extra protection. And, even before hearing today's testimony, I said, what about the elections workers who were threatened because of Trump's lies. Trumpers publicized their names, phone numbers, addresses, etc. I cannot stand the doggone hypocrisy!

when Merrick Garland testified before a Senate committee? Garland was explaining a task force he was creating to combat violence against school board members and election officials. Anyone watch that hearing?

Every GQP Senator jumped all over Garland for restricting free speech, every one.

By the time the hearing was over Garland was practically apologizing by changing his tune to just working with local law enforcement to stem the violence. Not sure how that DOJ task force is working out.

and others engaged in similar activities on behalf of us citizens?

...And then we establish an DOJ/FBI crew to pursue and prosecute those offenses along with anyone who finances those offenders?

Also they can't afford private security.

How many of you have lived in 4 or 5 states, and always try to vote, but you need the help of those who have been around and know some of the little things you have to know. I wasn't crying but found myself getting choked up listening to what they had to go through. It's not fair. These workers know where the fuse box is in the older buildings, where you can find the water fountain after waiting in line, plus the difference of the changes from last year, etc. They really needed protection and the best the FBI could do was tell them to get out of their house for awhile.

In fact, the DOJ just obtained a guilty plea in a case last week.

See also 13 USC 245.

And a number of states have passed laws to protect election officials.
