New coronavirus subvariants escape antibodies from vaccination and prior Omicron infection

https://www.cnn.com/2022/06/22/health/ba4-ba5-escape-antibodies-covid-vaccine/index.html

Isn't the reason that these new variants are on the rise is because the old variants are suppressed by our immune system?

I mean we're biasing against the Fitness of the old variants and variants that are suppressed by vaccines and prior infections.

What do we really expect? That covid evolution isn't going to circumvent our selection against susceptible strains?

I do not understand why this article should be treated as newsy rather than being treated as same old same old expectation of what we should anticipate under random mutation and the very non-random selection against variants we can defend against.

Even when there was only one variant, the understanding of the public was very inconsistent, ranging from people who took the vax and knew why to people who didn't take the vax to avoid space alien tracking.

Now I think all we need to know is projected death rates and long COVID nfection risk. We don't need to know which specific variants are prevalent, imo That knowledge provides negligible decision-making support.

It’s appears they do so still.

I’ll get the new booster in October.
