Of course, with the "cleft of the buttocks" criteria, Joe The Plumber is just as illegal as their targets, but I somehow doubt they'd prosecute that one.

(9,137 posts)They want her to give up and pay the ticket, or take time off work to go to court. They will not show, and the ticket will be dismissed, but she will be inconvenienced.
My suggestion is to fight the ticket, but subpoena the officer who wrote it. Force her to be inconvenienced, and explain to the judge why she wrote an indecent exposure ticket to a woman wearing five times the amount of clothes of a typical female bathing suit.

(16,834 posts)Of course, we have beaches here, but she wasn't in a bikini, just regular clothes. Indecent exposure is such a bullshit charge. I can understand not wanting people to be having sex in public, but we shouldn't be concerned with what people wear. It's just not that important.

(11,757 posts)I think it was abuse of power on the police part, and the gal cited will win. I have a pair of jeans I use for yard work, one pocket is starting to tear, under their ordenece, I could also be fined if the t-shirt I was wearing was not long enough that particular day. I hope they fined every guy with his butt crack hanging out, or his Harry gut hanging out. I find that in bad taste, but I doubt guys get fined for that fashion choice.

Do cops in Louisiana take special courses on how to be obnoxious? When the next mass school shooting happens in Louisiana, the cops will arrive in the scene, armed to the teeth, and the first question they will ask is, how many shooters are there, and are they modestly dressed?

(50,783 posts)Again. Police need to be held accountable.
1) If someone is ticketed and the ticket is an abuse of power there need to be penalties against the police department. In this case, the police department would be required to pay all costs of the person ticketed. Attorney fees, lost wages, etc.
2) A public database showing the disciplinary actions taken against officers. Punitive actions against police officers violating the rights of citizens. Each step would result in more serious action.
3) To ensure judges don't abuse this and keep officers out of harm they would also be subject to action if found guilty of abuse themselves.

(1,654 posts)innocent woman paramedic in her own home in the middle of the night awoken by a no knock raid and you want to hold an officer accountable for writing a ticket for indecent exposure? You can't have young things showing their bodies and tempting men who can't control themselves. This young woman has to be held accountable for the bad things any passing man might have no matter how hot the weather is.

She looks great and is dressed for the weather.
I'll tell you what...she said woman cops? Probably just asserting their "authority" because she looks attractive in those clothes.
She's covered up, and she has the figure to dress like that without calling undue attention to herself. And even if she didn't have the figure for it...so what? She's covered up.
Such bullshit. Every day, the bullshit gets deeper.
Do they allow bathing suits on a public beach?

(17,413 posts)In my state, women can walk around completely topless if they desire to.
I've never personally seen a woman walking around topless, but it is not illegal.
I suppose if a particular business wanted to ban that on their premises, they could. But if a woman wants to walk down a public street topless, she legally can.

(90,758 posts)and if people don't know the difference between a jean pocket and underwear then might I suggest they go to the store, grab a pair of jeans or jean shorts, head into the dressing room, drop trousers, and examine both the pockets of the jeans and their own undies. Keep looking until you can tell the difference between a jean pocket and your underwear. Don't come out of the dressing room until you do understand the difference.
And, btw, public parks with lakes and bayous as well as public pools are public places where people wear a lot less and butt crack is on display.
Are women expected to wear a burkini there?

(22,572 posts)It's clearly a citation aimed specifically at women meant to control and subjugate. Although it states, "any person" please share with me the instances that it would apply to anyone other than a female person. I'll wait.
She is righteously concerned and I hope she wins her battle. Because it's not just a battle against the power play by the cops.
It's a perfect opportunity to point out that women aren't here to be second class citizens under the control of an oppressive patriarchal society. No man will ever be in violation of this ordinance as it's written. When have you ever seen a man in a skort?
By raising the alarm she's educating the public and leading by example. Too many other women and girls in general, need to be made aware of their own oppressive situations and this is a perfect opportunity to do just that.
Just like beauty is in the eye of the beholder, so is evil and those cops saw exactly what they were looking for.
As a side note, mad respect for her being there with her ex-husband and current husband and having them both back her up. Not that she needed it.

It is disappointing when it's other women that push this type of bs onto other women.
I would like to see if others have received the same thing and what they were wearing. Maybe they might come foward after seeing her do it .

(18,475 posts)Maybe this is a case of small town cops where crimes reported by relatives of the chief LEO are pursued before crimes that actually matter. Maybe it's just that law enforcement pursues crimes where they feel less likely to get hurt or killed similar to how they appear to act in a state next door. My search indicates that Winnfield has 17 officers in the department. I infer that they don't work 7 days a week so maybe about 6 or 7 officers were on duty at that time. In view of the following data, it's good to know that Winnfield is taking seriously the danger to the community posed by shorts and t-shirts.
With a crime rate of 42 per one thousand residents, Winnfield has one of the highest crime rates in America compared to all communities of all sizes - from the smallest towns to the very largest cities. One's chance of becoming a victim of either violent or property crime here is one in 24. Within Louisiana, more than 82% of the communities have a lower crime rate than Winnfield.
Separately, it is always interesting and important to compare a city's crime rate with those of similarly sized communities - a fair comparison as larger cities tend to have more crime. NeighborhoodScout has done just that. With a population of 4,153, Winnfield has a combined rate of violent and property crime that is very high compared to other places of similar population size. Regardless of whether Winnfield does well or poorly compared to all other cities and towns in the US of all sizes, compared to places with a similar population, it fares badly. Few other communities of this size have a crime rate as high as Winnfield.
Now let us turn to take a look at how Winnfield does for violent crimes specifically, and then how it does for property crimes. This is important because the overall crime rate can be further illuminated by understanding if violent crime or property crimes (or both) are the major contributors to the general rate of crime in Winnfield.
For Winnfield, we found that the violent crime rate is one of the highest in the nation, across communities of all sizes (both large and small). Violent offenses tracked included rape, murder and non-negligent manslaughter, armed robbery, and aggravated assault, including assault with a deadly weapon. According to NeighborhoodScout's analysis of FBI reported crime data, your chance of becoming a victim of one of these crimes in Winnfield is one in 94.
