Guns ownership as I think it should be

Guns. What I would like to see.

Obviously fewer sales of the highest-powered weapons. But that ship has sailed. This country has about 400 million guns in civilians’ hands. Roughly 45% of the world’s total for 5% of the world’s population. It is the same thing as how many billions of dollars do you need?

First: Real training for all firearms owners. This would include use, cleaning, carrying, and live fire. This would include Training for every class of weapon you buy. Revolver, semi-automatic handgun, shot guns, pump and break open, rifles, bolt action and semi-automatic.
First weapon requires a full course. A shorter course for each new class of firearm.
Second: Registration of all guns with a background check for all sales and exchanges/gifts.
Third: Mandatory insurance for damages caused by your firearm.
Fourth: Required proper storage of firearms not in current use. Current use being defined as carrying the weapon, practice, cleaning, and hunting. Current use is not laying on my bedstand while I run errands.
Fifth: I want to see ‘responsible gun owners’ held responsible for the death and destruction caused by their careless use and storage of their weapons.
Sixth: I want to see jail time for people who “forget” that they have packed a gun in their carryon luggage and lied on every ticket form. Life long no fly list.

but that list of yours sounds reasonable.

your third point, mandatory liability insurance would be enough. geico would require, or give discounts, for training, securing the weapon etc. and the constitution would not apply to a private sector company.

Kept in my brother's gun safe two states away.

Father died. It was his. Became my mother's (who was rights-deprived by virtue of dementia, so I had it put in the gun safe).

Eventually I inherited it.
