Perhaps we can name it the Bowers Syndrome.

Bowers, the Republicans, are telling us they believe having a Democrat in the Whitehouse is worse than the destruction of our election process, our democracy, our constitution.

They are telling us, yes Trump tried to destroy our country, but we will vote for him again because the Democrats are worse.

I haven't checked, but I would bet Bowers is a pro life fanatic. Trump gave him what he wanted. He probably believes Democrats are evil because they are pro choice.

... has already eroded.

He drew the line at doing something that could land him in prison. But he'll gladly vote for the person who tried to put him in prison. As long as he isn't asked to do something illegal. Let others do the illegal things. It's perfectly fine that we have a president committing crimes but just don't ask him to take the risk himself.

We really should be used to blatant self-interest from republicans by now.

Looks like maybe there are two types of republicans: those willing to do criminal things for power and those who don't mind other people doing the criminal things as long as they keep their power.

2. That is a question worth asking.

Why?

Why do they continue to say that they would vote for Trump, even after attempted overthrow of the government and total absence of any character?

Michael Steele, former head of RNC, said this morning on Morning Joe that they were more fearful of Joe Biden and the Democrats than Donald Trump?

If there was an existential threat from Trump, it was even worse with Biden and the Democrats.

Steele said they were threatened by "socialism" and "wokeism"and the general direction Democrats are going.

That's a helluva thought!

They have total control of the Supreme Court and the laws of the land, and they are more worried about Joe Biden than Donald Trump?

Has the Democratic Party really moved that far left? I don't think so.

3. Maybe the truth is that they agree more with whatever Trump is doing,

even if it's illegal and immoral but that is not what they'd say in public. Where they draw the line is going to jail for Trump. It's not about the country, is all about themselves.
There's nothing radical about the Democratic Party and nothing to fear.

7. 40 years of demonization in the right wing press

Consistent demonization of liberals has them convinced that we are evil rather than just an opposition party.

In that mindset, even the most corrupt R is better than the most well behaved D.

It’s demented but has been working for them.

I used to hope for week/bad primary winners to improve our chances in the general. Then the idiots kept winning so I stopped doing that.

9. Why are "reasonable Republicans" like Michael Steele not spending all their efforts to undo that?

Talk to the people who need talking to, Mike. Tell them how you and others fed their boogeyman fears because it got them to vote for Republicans. Tell them about how FOX and all their other favorite "news" outlets lie to them.

Republicans will put an idealogical belief, even one that has been proven wrong, above all else. Even above self preservation.

Let Raffensperger run unopposed because he stood up to the Slobfather.
Hayes facial response almost broke my screen. Then he raised the issues of opposition and differing policies.

Republican editorials over the years. She doesn’t like Trump but she’s still stupid and supports their other policies. What I found ridiculous was the basis for her argument was that she as an individual has voted for Dems she didn’t agree with (fat chance), just so a Trumpy type wouldn’t win, so therefore Dems shouldn’t run a candidate against Raffensperger. Not the same thing! And, a Democrat in Raffensperger’s job wouldn’t have done what Trump wanted either.
