It’ll save the average American $16.56 over a 90 day period.

Much better is the anti-gouging bill democrats in the house passed. Unfortunately republicans will probably kill it in the senate- but that would have led to real results that would impact Americans pocketbooks in a meaningful way.

I’m not going to waste my time defending a bill that is essentially toothless, that in the end will actually negatively impact democrats. What do you think happens in three months when the “tax holiday” expires, right before the elections anyway?

Instead I’m going to write my senators and tell them to act on Katie Porter’s bill and I’m going to point out to everyone who will listen that Republicans are the ones blocking it and keeping gas prices high.

Forget the fact we actually use those tax dollars to fund Highway projects and more- the bigger issue as I said is timing. While Americans won’t feel much of any impact from a tax holiday, they’ll imagine they feel it in reverse when it expires in October. Then it’ll be the Biden gas tax being added, just in time for mid terms.

It’s just not a financially beneficial plan, and it’s a politically foolish one.

Surely the little loss can be made up by that. Not a good reason to not do this even the population knows there is lots of money for roads available.

But states also need to be on board. Indiana will hike its gas taxes in July and we’ll be paying 61 cents per gallon. This is a record increase.

The Dems are pushing for a moratorium but so far, nope.

But we will be getting an extra $250 tax refund (which will go toward paying this gas tax).

Insane.

They must figure there is a new economic equilibrium, which does happen to bring them more profit.

The federal government should, however, redirect subsidies that would go to oil companies, using that money instead to fund fuel vouchers for the working poor and mass transit.

(which I wouldn't because I think infrastructure needs the funding)

But if I were, I would do it as a rebate.

That way, gas companies can't absorb the money by failing to match the price drop. And people know where it is coming from. And you could reserve it for private citizens and shut out corporations.

Otherwise, I think it is problematic for all the reasons mentioned above.

Think this is a bad move. In short term it looks good but will expire in September. What happens 2 months later. The midterms and a good portion of the people will think is Biden and Dems raised gas prices by 50 cents. Plus all the ads from GOP will be highlighting this and the electorate is not smart enough to figure it out. Only listen to the 30 second sound bite.
