President Biden - "There's going to be another pandemic"

Q Mr. President, are you accounting — I know you’re looking for more money from Congress for this vaccine campaign and for COVID funding going into the fall. How much of the supply of vaccines for these small children is there? And how many of the nation’s kids will you be able to get vaccinated before you need more money from Congress?

THE PRESIDENT: Well, we’ll get through at least this year. We do need more money. But we don’t just need more money for vaccines for children, eventually; we need more money to plan for the second pandemic.

There’s going to be another pandemic. We have to think ahead. And that’s not something the last outfit did very well. That’s something we’ve been doing fairly well. That’s why we need the money.

This popped out for me. Do they feel another Covid pandemic is inevitable? Or is he talking about another virus? He said it with such certainty.

that he is just saying that we're probably going to have to deal with something new and unexpected in the future and there's no reason to think that we won't. Hopefully, more people care about it more than they have this one- which (reminder) isn't even over yet.

If past human history offers any lessons for the long term, two words come to mind: Unpredictable. Inevitable.

Said the same words, you know, smart and forward thinking. Donny just denied any pandemic was happening, what a huge difference in Presidents!

We're very likely to have another pandemic in the future and Biden is calling for proactive measures so that the country be prepared and ready rather than caught up in a panic without proper supplies, protocols and funding measures to reduce mortality rates.

We lost 1 million+ Americans to Covid. A good portion of those deaths were due to governmental fumbling and incompetence. Put measures in now for the inevitability of another, perhaps more lethal pandemic. Even George Bush realized that waiting for a pandemic to appear on the scene, left no time to prepare for the fallout.

This idea should not be political (although nearly everything is anymore). It's a pragmatic move to reduce the threat to the American public. Be it good or bad, we live in a global environment. Pathogens do not recognize borders or nationalities. It's the very least we should have learned from Covid.

Bill Gates anticipated that something like Covid could happen. But its very hard to get governments to act pre-emptively.

Yes, something else will probably happen.
