Which incorporated the second amendment through the due process clause of the 14th amendment and applied it to the states. Similarly, the 1st amendment does not only apply to laws passed by Congress, despite its wording.

Americans have a fundamental and individual right to own firearms, it is now connected to the 14th Amendment as is the 1st, I'm not sure why people ignore these facts since we have to live with them.

it just has to be tied to objective and not subjective criteria. It should not take NY long to write the appropriate law.

civil rights can be restricted but in limited and well defined circumstances. We shouldn't have to depend on the subjective opinion of a government official to exercise a civil right.

Nine I think. I think the impact is being overblown - it is perfectly possible to write strict gun control laws that meet constitutional muster. NY simply needs to rewrite their laws to reflect objective standards.

I support strict licensing of concealed carry.

NJ can require a permit/license, but they can't restrict it to just those serving in delivery security roles.

The "Pineys and other yokels" will soon have carry permits unless they have criminal backgrounds, significant psychological issues, or fail to acquire a reasonable amount of safety training (or similar)

No high principles involved.

They were for states' rights when it meant allowing states to legalize slavery, and they were against states' rights when it meant free states didn't have to help capture and return people who had managed to escape slavery.

Their only real principle is that they want their way always. And they will say anything in the moment that furthers their own cause.

I mean, when is the last time we've heard these fascists try to invoke "States rights" to protect the masses or make life better for everyone? Never. But, damn, they sure love them some "States rights" when it can be used to bully women, discriminate against people of color, terrorize LGBTQ's...

In other words: Not so much states right, but more like states tyranny.

30. Those talking points are irrelevant.

I have said so repeatedly.

Republicans are not about "small government". They will grow government to whatever size needed to achieve the society they want.

They are not about "fiscal responsibility". They will spend or borrow whatever they need to for corporate tax breaks and the military. They simply do not want ANY spending to give the poor and middle class anything.

They are not about "the traditional family". There is no "traditional family" that is a relatively recent, and made up concept. Most people, for most of history, have lived in extended family groups, with intergenerational households. This idea of Dad, mom, 2.1 kids in the picket fence house is modern. What Conservatives want is for MEN to be in charge. Period. Men (and not even all men) get to tell everyone else how to act. Rich White Men can have mistresses whom they force to get abortions, whom they can beat, etc... because they are privileged and deserve their pleasures. The rest of us need to know our place.

They are NOT about States Rights. They are about anything they want, to protect the status quo and enforce the hierarchy. If the State gives it to them, then "States Rights" if the Federal Government gives it to them, then so be it. Anything from the State or Federal Government that they see as giving the "undeserving" any sense of autonomy, is a violation of their right to rule unfettered by the desires of the masses.

What you missed is that Conservatives do not have any coherent policy platform. The only consistency they have is that the power in society should be theirs.
