I don't think this court is taking prisoners anymore. They are determined to make this a far right wing hellscape and there's no reason to hold back any longer. I don't think anyone could have predicted the hoops they jumped thru today.

The abortion ruling will likely be catastrophic, but the ruling today wasn’t as extreme as some are making out.

SCOTUS ruled that states are free to condition licenses based on objective requirements, whereas some states were previously using subjective requirements. The ruling holds that if an applicant meets all the objective requirements that have been set by the state, the state cannot deny them their license.

There is nothing stopping New York, California, or any other state from implementing a laundry list of legal requirements and hurdles, (i.e. mandatory annual gun safety classes, gun carry insurance, a mental health screening, etc) — they’re simply now prohibited from using subjective requirements that were not uniformity applied.

In today’s ruling SCOTUS actually also said that the sensitive places restrictions are settled constitutional law and states are free to restrict carry, even from licensed individuals, in sensitive places such as government buildings, schools, and polling places.
