Look at Farage, LePen, Bolsonaro and Modi though.
Populism seems to be the problem more than conservatism. Or at least where they intersect.

For LePen, my understanding was that she was on the fringes rather the mainstream, no? or was she the mainstream?

They aren't Europe. Populism is popular over there, both left and right.
I think their right is probably just as crazy as our right. I think populism thrives when voters have limited education.

The president of Mexico won as a left populist and then he started supporting Trump...go figure.
Although the recently elected president of Colombia is a left populist, I need to see how this plays out.

It seems that many countries in the developing world, go from very left to very right and there is not much in between.

Conservative parties elsewhere in the West (like the UK) tend to be much more socially liberal than the GOP.

The modern GOP also has much more of an authoritarian and theocratic bent than all but the farthest right parties of others in the West.

and gun laws, etc. They differs with democrats about how much money we should spend to get there. But at the core, these "common sense" things are wildly accepted in other countries (including Asian countries). Coming from another country, it boggles my mind how US's "conservative" party is so cray cray.

They are neo-fascist. They call themselves conservative, so that they can fool people. They conserve nothing ... life, history, rule of law, facts, nothing.

We still have conservatives, most have abandoned the GQP. The Fox masses have been turned into puppets. Comparing to other countries' "conservatives" is a misnomer, and far too broad a brush. Some, like Bolsanaro's Brazil, are neo-fascist. Others, like Poland are conservative. There are distinct differences.

What used to be called "Libertarian" was always far to the right of the GOQP, but they eventually took the GQP over.

Here in Japan the ruling party is usually characterized as conservative or right-wing. I look at them and their positions and think, "in the US, they would be moderate Democrats."
