Early days but this could be in the Gulf of Mexico

for the July 4th weekend. It moved from 20 to 40% in a few hours.

FROM NOAA
For the North Atlantic...Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico:

1. Tropical Atlantic:
A tropical wave located over the eastern tropical Atlantic continues
to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This activity has
become a bit more concentrated this evening, and environmental
conditions appear conducive for additional development over the next
few days. A tropical depression could form by early next week as
this system moves westward at around 15 mph over the tropical
Atlantic.
* Formation chance through 48 hours...low...20 percent.
* Formation chance through 5 days...medium...40 percent.

Those damned storms reach us first and we start watching anything south of Barbados. It's to early to stress out - could turn, could weaken, etc - keep an eye and get the trees trimmed. Make sure you refilled the supplies from last year.

Before anything else every day. I don't have the psyche to live on an island, I have developed a thing about deep water these days, but I do live in a mountainous area where weather rules the day every day. I like that part, I would rather have mother nature determine my daily activities.

When things might get nasty, it's good to know it's coming.

The weather since I was a kid, I think it was because there were a couple hurricanes that hit New England during that time. It was something I recognized during the first one because we had to all gather in the big kitchen in the farmhouse we lived in, hurricane lamps and other preparations were made and we all survived.

My dad was in the Navy so we also heard tales of being on aircraft carriers, etc., in a typhoon or trying to avoid one and he was often gone, when our area wasn't threatened, for other hurricanes because aircraft were often in need of relocation, he was a fly guy, and all hands were called upon for such movements.

Then, when I was a road runner, I had to know what I would encounter during my travels and reroute if necessary. Now, I just live in a place where the weather changes regularly, keeps things interesting.

What kills me are the tourists who show up in this rugged place and expect it to be like Florida or California. They show up in tank tops and flip flops in September, when it's already getting cold for them, and ask where the walmart is... in a town that is one square mile in size. Then they complain if the national park near by is closed, like now, because it isn't running in assembly line fashion. They made no contingency plans, first mistake.

Most of the recent storms were south of the Baja peninsula.
